Does anyone else think that the current US comedies on TV are stale and uninspiring?
e.g.
Big Bang Theory
How I Met Your Mother
Rules of Engagement
2 Broke Girls
New Girl
New Normal (unusually funny tonite tho' )
Mindy Project

Hope we get a fresh new comedy that's actually funny soon

As much as I love all things American, there are VERY FEW US comedies that I like!! Heres the list of the ones I cannot stand:

Mike & Molly
Whitney
New Two & A Half Men(Preferred the old one with Charlie Sheen)
Big Bang Theory
How I Met Your Mother
Friends(I know its not current, but to me it wasnt very good comedy)
Frazier(ditto as with Friends)
Anger Management(Somehow Charlie Sheen misses the mark in that)

And I am sure theres a few others!!

2 Broke Girls is awful. I watched about 5 minutes of an episode and was cringing for 41/2 of them. Just horrible and I can't understand how it has been given a second season (I think?) when other shows were dumped after one (Alcatraz for example - I know it's not a comedy but I thought it deserved a second shot).

Two and a Half Men was awful - with or without Charlie Sheen. Just so self indulgent.

I've never heard of Frazier.

Frasier, on the other hand, I thought was a very slick, clever comedy. ;o) I think it was aimed at the older generation as it wasn't so "in-your-face" as Friends or the like.

How I Met Your Mother is definitely past it's sell by date. I lost interest after about season 3 - JUST TELL US ALREADY!!!!

I used to adore How I Met Your Mother but too many of the stories these days are OTT and cringeworthy. I still watch it and it still has some good moments but I'm very ready for it to end.

Big Bang is a recent discovery for me so I'm still very much in the honeymoon phase with it.

Cannot stand 2 Broke Girls. It's one of the few shows on e4 that we will actively change channel to avoid in our flat. Just dire.

I agree, we're in need of a strong new comedy soon

Used to watch TBBT, HIMYM and New Girl but I gave up on them

Saw the pilot of the Mindy Project and decided not to bother with the rest of the series

Haven't seen any of the other 3

I've just started watching TBBT S6 and it's not as good as it used to be. The fact that I wasn't too bothered with watching it when it first came on E4 is a throw back to how I feel it has gone down hill.

Big Bang Theory is certainly not as good as it once was.

New Girl on the other hand is getting better all the time.

Can't stand HIMYM anymore. Getting to that point with TBBT and The Office. Haven't watch 2 & 1/2 Men since Sheen left.

New Girl is good. How I Met Your Mother is also good, but previously episodes were better.

Legit (which doesn't air in the UK) is brilliant...

Frasier is one of the finest comedies of this generation IMO, but there you go.

Friends was ok if you're into that kind of 'in your face'/slapstick comedy.

Rules, MIMYM, Big Bang have all had ups and downs. You can add It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia to that list as well.

Not a fan of the more recent shows like 2BGs, Happy Endings, The Mindy Project etc. Haven't really seen much of New Girl, although the brief clips I have seen, I haven't had to fight the urge to tear my own ears off, so that's a good sign I guess.

This all being said, it's not something that's the sole domain of US comedy, our's is just as bad.

You may blame syndication dollars on this one.

Friends barely ever did slapstick.

If you want animated comedy that's something a little different I'd recommend Archer.

Yep, Archer is the only US comedy I still keep up with.

Maybe it's the spy angle that keeps me interested as one of my all time favourite shows was Chuck, which is somewhere between Archer and the more serious spy shows such as Alias or Nikita.

There's always Parks and Recreation, which is the finest comedy to have come out of the US since Frasier ended. Plus a new season of Arrested Development coming up. Archer is excellent, as is Louie - although I wouldn't class the latter as a traditional comedy.

Other than that... 30 Rock has ended (and ended on fine form), The Office and Community have gone drastically downhill and the vast majority of the newer comedies are average at best. Then there's just absolute dross like Big Bang Theory, 2 Broke Girls, Two and a Half Men etc.

How can a series that has one season be past its best? Surely if it started out well and now isn't good then its just a average series, its not really had a peak.

Having wrote that I kind of agree with you The moment the gran character became nice the whole dynamic of the show went.

The Simpsons and Family guy
Seth McFarlane keeps saying he doesn't see the show lasting longer, and then you read he signs a deal doing it for a few more years

P&R and Louie are terrible but I agree with you on most of the others. I liked Big Bang Theory, but it's gone downhill, and 2BG is kind of a guilty pleasure of mine...

I haven't got to the fourth season yet, but Modern Family is still going strong.

I actually think New Girl is very strong at the moment. It's just been getting better and better since the first season. I do agree about the others though.

Community and Parks & Recs aren't nearly as good as they used to be, but I still find them to be enjoyable and funny comedies.

TBBF has just turned in to the later series or Friends eg not as funny as it was, but watchable, and turns in to a soap with jokes in it, which i think is always going to happen when they have very similar premises.

How i met you mother, was a good premise to start with, but has just strung it all out too much now by several seasons. The only way i think it can redeem itself if the mother is one of his past long term girlfriends, otherwise at the end the whole series is just going to feel like a waste.

2BG i really wanted to like this when it started, but just cant. Its always the same, Caroline will say something innocent, Max will then say it so it seems more sexual, cue laughs, and repeat.

TNN is another sitcom that there is just something missing about it.

Whitney and new Two & a Half Men have grown on me over time. I flat out didn't like Whitney the first episode I watched, avoided for some time, then accidentaly watched one and laughed, so gave it a chance and now keeping up.

I of course watched the first few Ashton episodes and was interested, but in no time that was gone - I didn't find the Alan meltdown stuff funny, nor the British girlfriend episodes that went on for too long. It has improved though, I think the Walden character has settled a bit more and now that Ryan Stiles is back (Judith left him), it's been okay again
