Growing up, I always hated steak. Everyone seemed to love it though but I just never got the appeal myself. Whenever I ate one I just thought it tasted bland and was just too chewy. Of course I only ever had steak cooked by my parents who both like it very well done therefore cooked mine the same way. However I tried rare steak in a restaurant last year for the first time and it was just divine. I couldn't believe how soft and easy to chew it was compared to well done steak and just how flavoursome it was. Now I love steak. I cook mine for about 4 minutes each side and it is just gorgeous. I like it when it's red in the middle and I like how the 'blood' (even though I know it's not blood) flavours whatever you have with it - I usually have mine with chips but like vegetables sometimes too. Even the thought of rare steak makes my mouth water...you wouldn't think I used to be a vegetarian for over seven years would you? ![]() Quote:
If there's red juice on the plate then you're not resting the meat properly.

My wife always used to ask for her steak well done. We went out once and the waiter got the orders mixed up. She was well into my rare steak and I didn't say anything. She said it was the best steak she'd ever eaten. Seared on the outside and lovely and tender on the inside. I explained that she'd just eaten my rare steak.
![]() She cannot believe she ever ordered her steaks well done now. She says that cremating a steak is against the law. Those of you who eat your steaks well done, should try a rare steak, you'll be completely amazed I promise.

That's nice, still doesn't alter the fact it hasn't been rested properly and would taste and cut a lot better if it had.

It just has to be ribeye and it has to be rare to medium. I can take or leave a sauce if it is cooked properly.

I've never had blue steak before but I really want to try it. How long would you cook it for?

Nope, I like the red juice, meaning I think it tastes better when it hasn't been rested.

I just don't get the hardly cooked 'thing' - all I can taste is blood if I am given meat served rare. And blood tastes the same whether it be beef, duck or venison..........
Faddish and I will not be dictated to by so called experts who say that it HAS to be cooked this way. Not that long ago you could not eat undercooked meat or you would likely die from some disease it carried............ |

We had a fillet and a ribeye last night - cooked to perfection, being very tasty and tender, but I put up with these steak dinners as OH enjoys it all. Give me a great seafood lasagne or any pasta or rice dish and I am happy. He enjoys them too, but then yesterday was his birthday - so steak once a year ain't bad.
