One thing I forgot to mention in my little essay about why I want the 8th Doctor back is the fact that the DW producers actually tried to convince Christopher Eccleston to come back for the 50th. That's all well and it would have been nice if he has said yes BUT it really makes me angry that they would go after someone who has voiced all along that he would have NOTHING TO DO with DW ever again but COMPLETELY IGNORE Paul McGann who has stated over and over again that he WOULD LIKE TO COME BACK! I just don't get it and it REALLY discourages me.

If it turns out that McGann is returning but it's currently being kept secret, would you publish a) a thank you to the production team, and b) an apology?

I'm not saying he is coming back, however until we know for sure who is definitely in and out, I would never presume what's currently "fact".

It's probably because who they decided to ask back had more to do with the story and less to do with the actors willingness to return

I would be very surprised if any returning Classic Doctors admitted that they would be appearing this early on in production. If McGann or the others are in it, they'll either be kept a secret until transmission, or the news will be released later. I think the Beeb would do well to drip-feed us information between now and transmission, rather than tell us everything just yet.

Almost certainly, the anniversary special will have a significant plot and will probably feature more returning characters (and hopefully Doctors) than we already know about. But I wouldn't expect to hear any major announcements until after the series 7b finale has aired - and I would expect that they will reveal something huge at that point to keep us interested and discussing in the interim.

Segee, in the last few days, you have started three separate threads about the potential return of McGann plus another McGann-centric one about the rumours of old clips being used. Can't you just stick to one thread on this subject?

While I'd love to have seen both, if both were up for it and I could only choose one, it'd have to be McGann.

Eccleston would have been a great counter to Matt's Doctor, I think they would have played off each other really well. Not sure how it's gonna work with Tennant...

Man YES Mcgann i would adore back....wish Eccleston was too however :/ but alas...i think it would be a special touch if Mcgann was utilised there....but hey we have Eccleston allegedly in a random cameo of sorts this weeks ep anyway so Mcgann needs his time to shine please

If that's true then I really wish you'd used a spoiler tag

To be fair all of them have said the same thing.

So did David Tennant and Billie Piper. We probably won't know the full cast list before November 23rd.

Personal feelings aside (I'm one of the few people who class McGann as "my" Doctor) Ecclestone is part of Nu-Who. McGann is not. Simple as that.

If you have McGann, and it isn't a 8th/9th prequel story, then you would have to find a place for Baker, Davison, Baker and McCoy. The old guard would then get annoyed Pertwee, Troughton and Hartnell were not represented and the story gets pretty messy.

As much as I'd love to see McGann don the wig again, it's easy to see why they are sticking to Nu-Who.

I'd love to see mcGann back, sadly he seems to be overlooked. He's currently working and unless he secretly filmed scenes months ago I.e., he didn't. He's not personally returning. There wil be a nod to his character, but that's it.

McGann is history and nothing to do with the modern incarnation of Dr Who, apart from some pictures in a book or in flashbacks. It would be much better to bring back some one playing Troughton as he would show the young-uns how to play the Dr. We could also have a Zoe / Clara twosome, although replacing Wendy Padbury would be impossible (who could fit a catsuit like her???).

Just because McGann was a fine actor appearing in the worst production of Dr Who does not mean h should be brought back.

But someone playing Troughton playing the the second Doctor might not play him in the same way that Troughton did, if that makes sense? It would probably be as little resemblance as Hurndall was to Hartnell's performance in the Five Doctors.

Exactly, in the same way that McGann would play the role very differently today compared to 17 years ago. One (very poor) movie which is hardlly ever shown does not make a fine actor an iconic Doctor.

Do you think Segree likes Paul Mcgann? I getting a slight hint of appreciation towards the eighth doctor!

Don't forget mcgann doing the audios for big finish, zagreus which was a multi doctor tale, shada where he had romanna 2 and k9 as companions and an earthy child where he reunites with susan

I do think it's a rather poor show by Ecclestone to want nothing to do with the 50th at all. We've all heard the rumors about his reasons for departure, but you'd think that as a proffesional he'd be able to put it behind him to give the fans a brief appearance on what is a pretty big anniversary.
