Can't get it out of standby.

Any ideas?

I take it you have tried the ubiquitous unplug, leave for a few minutes then plug in again. This seems to work for a lot of electronic gizmos when they chuck a wobbly.

Probably a power supply problem and not economically repairable.

With respect, EthanMaxx, have you got any electronics repair experience? If I said it was possibly a faulty capacitor, do you have the knowledge and skills to be able to find it, then do a diagnosis with a heat gun, and if you find it then do the replacement?

None of those are what I would call HiFi.

And the power figures you quote are a complete work of fiction. As is normal for this class of sound system the manufacturers invent some spurious method of specifying the power output that has no resemblance to reality in the belief that gullible punters like big numbers. So if your kit has a bigger number than the other guy's you'll sell more of yours.

I used to have one of those huge JVC stereos. An MX-GB6. I think my friend summed it up best when he first saw it by saying, "It looks like the sort of stereo that Ali G would buy".

The Sony is 'fairly' honest (as most 'HiFi' amps are) - it's rated at 50W RMS per channel (although at a whopping 10% distortion) - it's 30W RMS per channel at low distortion.

The Sharp one is rated at 100W RMS per channel plus 200W RMS for the sub (to DIN 45 324), or 78W RMS per channel plus 166W RMS for the sub (to DIN 45500)
