The Register said it happens so often they aren't even going to write about it anymore unless it's a quiet news day.

No 2g or 3g, no calls, texts or data available. Only emergency calls and that's probably because any network will accept an emergency call if your home network is unavailable.

Just calls for me, can still text & use data.

If Tesco is down too then must be a MVNO problem as I know O2 is working as my friend is using his O2 phone now.

I keep hearing this is a regular thing with Giffgaff, but when was their last major outage? The last one I can remember being reported is the one in March of last year, which was the result of a burst water pipe.

I've been with them since Christmas and this is the first time I've had any problems. Does it really happen as often as people are making out?

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2012/11/12/giffgaff_poll/

Customers were affected this time last year for 3 hours, then in July by the O2 outage, then later last year in the 2nd O2 outage and now this year in another 3 hour outage, so they have had serious downtime every quarter for roughly the last 4 quarters.

That doesn't include the goodybag issues, website issues, porting issues, topup issues which are a regular feature. On top of those there's the information leaks like sending your mobile number to every website you visit or leaking personal data to other customers.

Whether you like The Register or not, those many outages happened. 1 Major outage of all services roughly every quarter for the last 4 and too many other porting, topup, credit and information leaks to count.

I was with Giffgaff from about July 2011 to April 2012 (just because I wanted to try them). I can remember numerous occasions where goodybags weren't being processed and a total data outage at least twice. Plus next to no 3G coverage.

I have been with T-Mobile since then. Not a single outage. Ever. I am surprised when I don't have 3G coverage in this rural part of the country.

They even fail when you're not a customer. I got a text message from them this week telling me to ignore a previous text saying that they're going to disconnect my number in a couple of days. Obviously they can't do that, because it is with T-Mobile. I never actually got the original text message, so they can't even get it wrong without failing at it.

As far as major outages are concerned, didn't Giffgaff fall over when O2's network shat itself, twice, in the space of a couple of months last year? (the same problem caused both outages)

We get it.....You don't like giffgaff!!
You don't need to like giffgaff to point out that it is rather unreliable, and their parent network won't win any awards for reliability either.
