I like the fact that they seem down to earth lads who don't, um I dunno, have twitter wars with other boy bands or try and push their way into the top of The Empire State Building or whatever.

I am a fan of the group you are not naming here, but those were clearly not their proudest moments to put it nicely...

How old were JLS when they went to the X factor? they seem "much" older, at the very least mature, and have deffinitely managed to guide their career well globally.

I thnk they were around 19 - 21 when they went on XF, if I remember correctly. Aston might even have been 18. Not that old, but they have always seemed like very sincere lads which makes them come across as older. I think the fact that they were friends who formed a group helped, as they've probably helped one another stay grounded.

Edit: Just checked their DOBs and Aston was the youngest at 20, Marvin was the oldest at 23. So a bit older than I thought, but still not very old.

so they were featuring jls on celebrity juice... may be that's why they (kelly?) thought the baby pic of zayn was one of jls, lolz!!

To be honest I can't see Union J becoming that big - certainly nothing like One Direction

In fact until I read this article I'd completely forgotten about them

The story seems completely off to me, to be honest. Union J and JLS aren't even signed to the same label so the stuff about the label spending all their time on Union J is factually incorrect. Then there's the issue that JLS were probably targeting a fairly different demographic of fan than Union J, and it just sounds like a story made to make JLS sound bitter or 'past it' or whatever.

As for whether Union J will be successful, nobody knows yet, but initial buzz is good, so why not? I don't think they'll be as successful as 1D but I do think with the right material they'll be absolutely fine. In terms of chemistry, they actually remind me a lot more of an early JLS than an early 1D, and that isn't a bad thing at all in my opinion.

I can't imagine they'd "split" because of this though, perhaps get dropped from the record label - but why split?

To be honest I think it can just be simply put as they were no longer a boyband while still trying to exist as one. Marvin's becoming a dad and they all just looked older than any of the other boyband membersout there. New boyband fans are either going to go for how exciting being a One Direction fan must be with how big they are and all their media coverage etc, the 'edginess' of The Wanted (whether or not you think they are actually are is another matter but at least to me that seems to be their intention) or the niceness of Union J with George especially having the most 'cuteness' and sweetness of any boyband member out there at the moment imo. It also helps he physically looks by a good couple of years the youngest of any of the members even if he's older than the majority of One Direction. Meanwhile the original JLS fans will have probably moved on from the whole boyband phase for the most part. You could tell by tumblr, especially, that there was a great shortage of fans with the general characteristic of what the standard of boyband lover currently does. Very few gifs, no bromance shippings etc. It was quite stale from what I observed, much less activity than those three.

So it was the case I think that they just couldn't compete with the younger boybands but I do agree that it was no reason to split. They could have adapted themselves (or at least made the attempt) into a 'manband', producing maturer songs and distancing themselves from the typical boyband fare (why were there still dolls of JLS members in shops on the same shelf as dolls of One Direction, boys in their late teens/early twenties?). It's sad that they didn't try it really, because there was opportunity for it in my opinion.

They always seemed quite clever lads to me..I remember reading and article about them which said they wrote a lot of their own music and had made wise business decisions so that they had made individually a good personel income...they all seem to have plans for the future and the JLS brand as set them up for future opportunities ..I know it's sad for the fans but I am sure it a decision that they are all happy with ...I don't get the impression there is any bitterness there either amongst themselves or with the label
