Wide screen tv problem
I've got a 42" JVC plasma display monitor through which is connected our Virgin cable tv set box. This has worked fine for a year or 2 but recently it has started to play up. When you turn the screen on there is sound but no picture but if you turn the screen off and on immediately the screen is fine . I've checked the manual for settings, etc but can't find anything wrong. Any ideas of what I can do?

How is the Virgin box connected to the TV? If it is HDMI it might be a handshaking issue. One workaround might be to turn the telly on with the Virgin box in standby then bring the Virgin box out of standby. That should force it to talk to the TV again.

No it's not an HDMI cable connection just a normal scart lead. I've tried turning the TV on 1st then the Virgin box and the other way round and it makes no difference. As I said if you turn the TV (display monitor) off then on again it's fine but very odd as to why it's doing this.

SCARTs are the invention of the devil (well the French anyway, which may or may not be the same thing
). They have this very annoying habit of trying to part company with whatever it is they are plugged into.So the first thing I do if there is a SCART lead involved is give the plugs a firm push to ensure they are properly engaged with the socket. I have known SCARTs that partially unplug so you lose video but keep audio (or vice versa). Also worth trying a different SCART lead if you have one, just to eliminate any issues with the lead. Also if the TV has more than one SCART socket try it on one of the other sockets. Always possible there is a dodgy connection in the SCART socket you are using. Equally if the Virgin box has TV and VCR SCARTs on the back try swapping from TV to VCR SCART to eliminate any problem with the Virgin box. NB the VCR SCART probably won't do RGB out like the TV SCART so you may have to change video modes on the telly if you are using RGB at the moment. |
