Series 7 is excellent - the problem for me is the splitting which is screwing with the way people remember what has gone on before...I;d forgotten Rory and Amy left half way through series 7.

I'm not bothered that they aren;t doing story arc/two parters.

I do LOVE story arcs and loved the way they were done by Moffat but I'm enjoying the stand alone ones at the moment - Cold War and Hide especially - they have a subtle old style feeling about them.

Series 1 and 4 are my favourites.

Can't say I'm too keen on this series, it just doesn't hold my interest as much anymore.

Love a lot of stories written by Moffat, but for some reason really struggle to like his overall direction on the show.

While I agree about the unreasonable hostility, just because X says Y doesn't mean that everyone who says Y is an X.

The 2nd half of Series 7 has not been brilliant. Partly down to the Neil Cross stories. However I think things are about to pick up from now until the end the series.

I'd agree up to the part where it says 'this is just my opinion', but following this with 'someone just had to say it' makes it sound like it isn't just the OPs opinion, but as if they're trying to say that they think that their opinion is predominant (which they have no way of knowing).

Idiots Lantern was the worst episode for me yet tbh, but it just shows how much opinions differ. For example Beast Below is one of my fav episodes, but lots of people seem to hate/dislike it.

As for series 2 overall my issue with it is that I hated everything about the characte Rose in that series (I didn't hate her nearly as much in season 1), I not only hated the way the character was written, but on top of that I also hated the way Billie Piper played her. (I'm not saying she's a bad actress, but sometimes there just are actors/actresses where you for some reason don't like their acting and I felt this way about BP). And she made it pretty hard for me to enjoy. Asides from that I didn't find most of the storylines particularly memorable and when i think of series 2 I have trouble recalling an episode that I would want to rewatch (which is a problem that I don't have with any other series).

The thing is that IMO in the 7 series so far it's impossible to state that this or that series is the strongest/weakest yet because the opinions on this vary tremednously on this amongst the fans. (which is partly a consequence of the changing nature of DW).

I can say that my favorite is series 5 by far, but at the same time I realize that not everyone likes it. Similarly for me series 6 was Moffat's least likeable, but I know that there's lots of people who liked it and who dislike series 5.

Why is it that whenever a poster makes even the slightest negative comment about the current series your response is to tell them that they've outgrown the show, as if you know better than them the reason why they don't currently rate the show??

Asylum is the only great episode (so far). The Snowmen came close, and was, indeed, the best Christmas episode for a while. The rest have fallen short. I never expected much from stuff like 'Dinosaurs...' but Bells and Cold War were missing something to place them up where they needed to be.

Well, I like the whole of series 7 after disliking series 6.

And I loved series 2 after not loving series 1.

Oh man no....Series 7 i think at the moment is m second favourite behind series 6 (still baffles methe amount of criticism series 6 gets...it was so darn insane and dark and twisted...and had a filmic and epic feel behind it...adored every episode!) and just ahead of series 5 (on rewatch series 5 has a couple episodes i dont really watch as much but still its an excellent series of episodes).

For me also i do agree series two is the worst by a landslide...i mean there is little to no redeeming feature in it IMO....girl In the FIreplace and the Satan Pit two parter i loved...like genuinely loved but the rest are ok - meh....even the finale i dont really like as much either :/ Series 3 just pips it however as there are some quality moments in the later half of that series too.

For me i love (much like the two series before it) the experimentalisation behind the episodes....it is a risk...having split the show into segments....you have the end of The Ponds with fragments of the Clara era coming into the mix, you have a break then the transitional period which marked the best EVER Christmas Special to date! And now we have a different vibe and feel for the next portion of episodes in the Clara era of Who...and in many ways series 7 B has showcased such a consistent flow...in fact series 7 on the whole i must say every week has at least been great (Dinosaurs, Mercy, Power of 3, Bells, Cold War) and at its absolutely PERFECT/EXCEPTIONAL (Asylum, Manhattan, Snowmen, Akhaten, Hide) So yeah...here is to the next 4 episodes which look set to continue this sublime trend

I agree, it just gives me more reason to say that the Moff era is my favourite.

I do think it's been the least consistent of these three series but I've still loved it.

It had a fantastic start with Asylum, the next three episodes were really good, one of them having a rather rubbish ending an ended with the wonderful Angels.

The Snowmen was perfect. My favourite Christmas special by far.

Bells, Rings and Cold War were all quite could whilst watching but by the end of the episodes I didn't think they were that great however after watching them a second time they were much better.

Hide was fantastic.

Journey looks fantastic and so do the remaining episodes.
I do blame the trailers for my slight disappointment in this half though because they were both so good I thought series 7 was going to be my favourite. It might still be, I'm yet to see the next four which all look brilliant.

Me too I think Series 7 is exciting. If the OP thinks its weak that's his option but it doen't make it so. Forgive the Star Trek lingo in there but I like that too and Star Wars too hence my username but you will have guessed that already.

Bells of St John. Really solid Doctor Who story with a fantastic aeroplane sequence as bonus.

Rings of Admiral Akbar. Another gem. Good story. Lovely singing. Flawed but no stinker.

Cold War. Really good stuff. Mutually Assured Admiration.

Hide. Superb. Nearly perfect.

And I am given to understand that the bloke wot wrote The Doctor's Wife has another one coming up.

It really depends on what you like, Moffat said in an interview that everyones opinions are right on how doctor who should be done whether its the movie style episodes, arc heavy or just the regular series we saw 1-5.

Personally, I don't mind series 7. In fact I'd go as far as to say it's one of my favourites. It does however contain my least favourite Doctor Who since the revival and that is Dinosaurs on a Spaceship. Here are my ratings so far excluding christmas episodes... I agree, I hate it when people respond like that. Its almost as if they want a divide between fans, they seem to forget most of us enjoy the show on the whole & hardly anybody says they "hate" any particular episode.
Some people are far too defensive to have a proper debate which is a shame as healthy banter just makes fans of the show think about it and enjoy it more.


I tend to agree with you, the stories have been weak IMO as they have been lacking in the suspense factor for me and thats why I welcomed the improvement on the last episode.
I hope the improvement continues.

S7 is easily my favourite of the Matt Smith era. Certainly better than S5 and S6. The last two eps have been absolute classics for me.

I have to say, I do agree with you OP, unfortunately. Particularly with 7B. The plots are mostly less interesting, some of the special effects seem more amateur, and some of the acting is really bad. It just doesn't have that epic quality at the moment and appears to have lost its verve.

If I am working when Dr Who is on, I video it. Before I would watch it as soon as I got home, or if that wasn't possible, then while I had breakfast the next morning. But now I am finding that I don't get round to watching it until 4 or 5 days later. I still watch it, but I don't have that same eagerness to see the next episode now.

I don't create new threads just for my opinion or to say "what a great series!" or "What a crap series!" -- THIS IS WHAT THE EXISTING THREADS ARE FOR !

If you know how to use a forum at all you will see that people have created threads where others can share thoughts etc on existing topics can do just that, and generate a discussion based on their thoughts and opinions. What the OP has done is to say "this series is shit. post over." -- how can a discussion be had from this as opposed to a thread which says "I think the series is becoming too childish for this this and this reason? Do you agree? what are your thoughts?" or a thread saying "here is somewhere we can discusss the episode as it airs/ after it airs. please share your thoughts on said episode"

Creating a thread like this does not make the OP's post more important or correct than anyone else's but that's what it comes across as.

Well said Davros. I think one of the most corrosive and offensive things on this forum isn't the occasional rude comment or poorly judged remark...it is those forum members who start a thread stating an opinion with no evidence and then when the debate gets going completely refuse to engage in the very discussion they have chosen to start. This sort of thing is not just ignorant but very disrespectful to fellow forum members.

A case in point is the recent 'childish' thread. Someone states a vague opinion with ZERO evidence to back that opinion up and doesn't even attempt to justify their argument. People then duly respond in kind and argue their point and the OP totally refuses to engage and respond to the points. Which can only lead to the conclusion that they had no basis for their argument or opinion in the first place. Which renders it almost pointless.

Anyone can make a statement. But the work is to back that statement up. So if you think Doctor Who is childish and like 'CBBC' you cannot just say that and consider it job done. You explain the rationale for this opinion and present evidence. The fact these sorts of posters choose not to speaks volumes unfortunately.

It is also noticeable that these sorts of threads are peppered with rather self important phrases like 'Someone has to say it' or 'Time someone told the truth' or 'this is what people are thinking but don't want to admit'. As if they are some oracle of truth, a daring source of free speech uttering words us deluded fans dare not say. Not true of course. I am happy to slate DW when it is bad (Hello there 'Wedding of River Song') but mostly I think its brilliant. I am not fooling myself or anyone. Its my opinion. The arrogance of those that claim some of us are just blinkered fan boys or girls because we don't constantly tear the show apart is not on.
