Hard disc and DVD recorders

Currently have a Pioneer Freeview standard definition hard disc/DVD recorder which I am looking to replace with a Hi Def Freeview version.

Only trouble is only Panasonic seem to make such devices these days and for some reason their latest models do not have SCART connectors.

Do any other manufacturers make hard disc/DVD recorders?

Panasonic have a new machine out sometime in June but no specifications available that I can find which may have SCART connectors.

But does anyone have any knowledge as to why Panasonic dropped SCARTs in the first place as it limits the ability to record from an external source.

Presumably because SCART is an obsolete connector, and the number of people wanting to record from an analogue source does not justify the expense of making it possible in a price-sensitive market.

As far as I can see Panasonic only do one Freeview HD disk/hard drive recorder

http://www.panasonic.co.uk/html/en_G...399/index.html

That is Blu-Ray biut according to both the specs and the manual it has two SCART sockets. And as far as I can see their DVD recorders also have two SCARTs , though for some reason best known to Panasonic they call them "21 PIN" so maybe not obvious at first glance.

njp You could be right about it being a cost consideration but as Panasonic are the only manufacture which seems to make a combined HDD/DVD machine I would not have thought that would be the case.

chrisrj thanks for the link I'll may go for that one if the new machine out in June does not have SCARTs

The blu ray recorder has two scarts but the input one is not RGB...if that matters
