First and foremost, let me just say that this is meant to be a bit of fun, so please no patronising "...and that's how to kill Doctor Who" type responses to other posters ideas or suggestions (and no bickering either). I'm asking what you would like from the series, not the rest of fandom, not the general audience, just you. Whether it would work in reality is irrelevant here.

Now that I've cleared that up, I may as well get the ball rolling. Here's a few things I would like to see:

An overseas companion, accompanied by a second companion from another time and/or another planet.
The running time of each episode extended to 60 minutes to allow for a less "rushed" feel.
Paul McGann and Christopher Ecclestone to return for the 50th, with cameos from the other surviving actors to have played the part.
Ian Chesterson to cameo in the 50th, with a tribute to Barbara.
A "Genesis" style storyline for the original Cybermen, set on Mondas.
More alien civilisations not so dissimilar from that we saw in The Rings of Akhenaten.
A story involving the return of the Time Lords, and The Doctor once again finding himself on the run from them.
I think that'll do for now. Over to you lot.

I have the perfect idea for a 50th anniversarry which would celebrate both the old show, connecting classic Who to NuWho, and the new show, which of course brought Dr Who back from the dead.

We have a aged, suicidal 8th Doctor, alone and dying on a wildreness planet thats been devestated by the time war. Everythings gone. No longer is he the comical, carefree, victorian gent from outer space with the long scarf that he used to be. He is now the last of his kind, and guilty of mass genoicide. He's ended the time war, and saved the universe, but at a terrible cost. Now his life is over.

But his call for help is picked up by the current Doctor and companion. 11 returns to the wilderness and shows his past self that it isnt all bad, that he will recover and learn to move on. Hopeful about the future once more, 8 regenerates into 9, saves the day (obviously something else will be going on as well) and once moer becomes a saviour of worlds, instead of a destroyer. And the first planet he must safe is Earth, which is in danger from another survivor of the time war, the Nestene Conciousness. 9 travels to Earth in the year 2005 where he meets some old enemies, the Autons, and a new friend, Rose...

The Doctor could have a shop with an assistant, maybe a tailors or a hat shop. He would enjoy selling hats to the customers with Clara selling all sorts of bow ties.
Every so often, The Tardis would turn up unexpectedly and the Doctor would have to apologise to customers and give them a prize for their inconvenience.

(Tardis noise)
The Doctor- Clara, it's time for a break
Clara- Yes Doctor, shall I flip the sign over.
The Doctor-Yes best do, not sure how long we'll be away
(Clara walks to the door and flips the sign on the door over to 'back soon')
Clara-Doctor, Time is relative isn't it?
The Doctor- Hurry along Clara and bring that umbrella, we may need it.

I would love to be a companion for two episodes. Just to say that I was one.

It would be a dream come true.

John Barrowman playing an immortal bi sexual character that bumps into the doctor. Maybe have an identity problem, calling himself something plain like "Captain Jack" but no one knows his name. He could go on and form a team, base themselves in London. No! Cardiff where's a rift on time...

...hang on...

...that's familiar...

I'd like to see the episodes on Earth to explore more of the Earth thanjust the UK or US or the Western world for that matter. I get that it's a UK TV show, but there have been several episodes which didn't take place in the UK, but as far as I can remember (I'm not 100% sure on this and I'm only talking about NuWho) all of them have been in Western Europe and in the US back in season 6. I imagine that the Doctor wouldn't be as ignorant as to only be in contact with what is after all only a small part of our planet.

I agree on more alien civilizations and also maybe some more episodes that are set in far away galaxies.

Some new monsters that don't necessarily have a physical form or aren't visible just with your eyes such as the thing in Midnight or Vashta Nerada in SitL/FotD.

Christopher Ecclestone to come back and do and series or two. He always seems to get brushed over but I think he was one of the best, and would have been even better once the kinks had been worked out after the first series.

Also for nine to meet ten, so I guess him to have been in the anniversary episode.

For him to drop by Amy parents old house and invesigate that dam staircase!

Kind of relevant in light of the divisive ending of 'Hide' at the weekend but its something I have often thought about New Who...

While I realise in these more enlightened times it is right and proper that the villains and monsters in DW are more multi dimensional rather than just being cardboard cut out bad guys but I do think it would occasionally benefit from a few more mercilessly evil and terrifying adversaries. There has been a bit too much of a tendency to either dilute the threat (as in Hide) or to underuse the potential of really great and scary creations- The Smilers and the Hellraiser type things from 'Rings' spring to mind. It is no wonder that the Weeping Angels are the most enduring new Who villains and arguably the only ones to join the pantheon of Classic Who monsters. That's because they are unrelentingly scary! The Silence and The Flood are other examples.

I know the BBC have to be careful not to be seen to cross a line for kids watching but without that where would the Daleks and 'behind the sofa myth' have come from? So yes. A few more scares please and enduring ones that aren't undone by the resolution.

I know The Beatles appeared in an episode during the Hartnell era, but I don't remember The Kinks appearing during the Eccleston era.

I want to see the Axos return. The Master and Davros too. Companion overlap, and a Companion not from modern day Earth.

Also, Space!Bonnie and Space!Clyde. The Doctor and Clara get caught in a robbery of a future bank in space and must find away stop the criminals without getting themselves, or the hostages, shot.

Bonus points with Space!Bonnie and Space!Clyde have bad mobster accents.

Double bonus if the Doctor uses a bad mobster accemt.

Tripple for the return of the Dalek tommy guns.

Also, an in-universe "Doctor Who" movie which is terribly inacurate, with a lead actor who hammier than any Classic villian, and plays, not one incarnation of the Doctor, but a mixture of all of them rolled into one.

The Doctor is not happy about this. Clara wants a copy of it.

So, overall, some more lighthearted stories without a looming sense of doom and dread. And make the a bit over the top for a bit of fun.

Some purely historical stories, where the plot is all about the historical situation and the characters, and without a monster crowbarred into it just because 'it has to have one because it's Doctor Who'.

How about one set during the Russian Revolution, with Rasputin and Lenin in it?

I'd love one set in the Indian Mutiny. Plenty of peril there - if you've ever read Flashman And The Great Game, there's a brilliant scene where the lead character has been in disguise, gets knocked out and wakes up to find he's been mistaken for a real mutineer and he wakes up to find he's gagged and lashed across the front of a cannon that's about to be fired...which is what the British did to execute mutineers...

There's lots of historical events that people have heard of but don't really know much about...and the BBC has always done costume drama very well...

I'd like to see the show broadcast at the same time every week rather than moving about all the time

Have one episode take place at a UNIT reunion thus allowing appearances from Sgt Benton, Capt Yates and Jo

I like the OP's ideas, except I'd have Christopher Eccleston.

It'd be quite nice to have Maria, Clyde and Rani (no, not The Rani, just Rani ) turn up in an episode.

I want to see River and Jack together in a story. Flirt overload.

Yeah, I was going to mention that in my OP.

I've got an idea in my head for a companion from Mumbai, that could be quite interesting.

I'm loving the suggestions so far.

If any of Sarah Jane's gang show up, they'd need to explain why Sarah isn't with them... and they're not going to kill her off. We've probably seen the last of them for good, unfortunately.
