Isn't this his twitter account then?
https://twitter.com/adam_kellybb If it is, then it appears that, not only is he aware of the links to Scientology, but he thinks (well, claims) they're of no consequence, and doesn't think it's important to make others aware of them. All seems a bit disingenuous on his part to my mind. |

I must have had the wrong account then. The one I have been looking at seems to have disappeared now! It seems that Adam feels that the message 'The Truth about Drugs' is more important than who delivers it. Personally I think that the drug issue is a complex one and that former addicts often generalise too much from their own experience, ie that one toke on a spliff is the road to lying in the gutter with a needle in your arm!

We've ascertained that he is aware of the links between the group he's supporting and Scientology; are we supposed to believe that, at no point (between when he was first approached to when people have tweeted him about it) he's not bothered to do some basic research? Surely he is aware that the group acts as a front for Scientology, which means he's complicit in the duplicity, and also knowingly pushing people towards Scientology via covert means.
On the other hand it could be that he is a fully paid-up Scientologist and totally behind pushing the faith via covert means, which would show him in a very poor light. Even if he is a Scientologist, it could be argued that he is as much a victim of this bogus faith as many other vulnerable people. I am glad though, that there are people out there making schools and other organisations aware of this groups dubious origins. |

No, Madonna practices Kabbalah, which is a form of Judaism. Famous Scientologists include John Travolta, Nancy Cartwright (the voice of Bart Simpson), Kirstie Alley, Beck, Peaches Geldof and the 2 guys from My Name Is Earl.
You're right though, the general public probably aren't aware of what Scientology's all about and why it's not just another benign religion. That's why it's vital we have conversations like this. Adam's been Tweeting a little about his travels but it's all very vague. The team obviously don't want their locations tracked down in advance. He hasn't answered any comments about the Scientology links. If he feels he has nothing to be ashamed about why not just come out and say it? ) but all I could find was the route they took last year.

No point in being disgusted with Adam. He is a kind person who genuinely wants to help young people. He is travelling across the UK obviously having a lovely time meeting teenagers and talking to them about his experiences; they are obviously having a lovely time as well, as I keep seeing happy tweets from them. It is very easy to think that because you know about something everyone else does as well, but if you mention Scientology to a random cross section of people you will find that very few people know anything at all, other than that Madonna and Tom Cruise are followers.
Madonna is in no way connected to Scientology. Because you know very little about Scientology, and you clearly don't, that doesn't mean it's the same for the majority. I think there's now far greater knowledge of that particular cult than there was 10-15 years ago. That's with big thanks to the BBC and many other media organisations. |

Even if Adam's not a Scientologist himself, even if he knows the marathon is a Scientology project, even if he knows of Scientology's aims, methods and reputation, maybe he felt this was one of those occasions when it was worth making a pact with the devil (for want of a better expression). Maybe he felt the end justifies the means and it was worthwhile to team up with anyone who could get a drug prevention message - ANY drug prevention message, even one as flawed as this - out to a mass number of kids.
Thousands of those booklets will be distributed and, on the surface, it seems all above board. It's not like they've got Scientology branding on them and I have no doubt the team aren't going into schools proclaiming, "Hey we're Scientologists, join our gang, give us all your money and if you're very lucky you can end up on the other side of the world, cut off from your family, cleaning Tom Cruise's toilet." So providing nobody digs any more deeply than just receiving the booklet, they'll never know they've been lectured by Scientologists. Maybe that's Adam's logic, as long as the S word isn't mentioned then all they're doing is some valuable drug prevention work. We really will never know if he isn't prepared to go public about his motives. I don't say all that to excuse it, of course. These people should NEVER be given free access to our kids. Whenever Scientology gets linked to any project, it's easiest just to assume there are nasty ulterior motives somewhere down the line. Scientology - just say no, kids. If anyone wants a bit of Scientology 101, this is worth 10 minutes of your time. It's a chilling satirical mash-up, the spin versus the truth. http://youtu.be/UnUbdAw9V4Y |

Someone's managed to have a conversation with him at last. He's blanking out the Scientology stuff because the drug message is more important. The person sticking up for him is one of Luke's hardcore fans. A LOT of denial and ignorance going on here!

This is worrying as Adam is popular with young people and it's not a nice thought that any donations they make are in some way funding this dubious cult.

What is the reason for thinking he's popular with young people?
The days of Big Brother stars being hugely popular with the public are long gone anyway. It's now a poxy wee show which has been 'demoted' to Channel 5. Ratings are nothing like it was in it's heyday. |

That was when it was on during Channel 4. It still gets great ratings for a channel like Channel 5. Its important to put things into context, otherwise you lose the full picture.
Adam was voted in 2nd place, so he does have an influence over people and probably is looked up to by some people. Big Brother does create noise for Channel 5 and a lot of young people do watch it. |

Surely, in context, the C5 ratings are like the low ratings BB had from bb8 on when it was on C4, and not like the much higher ratings BB had earlier.
You sometimes have to change the audience target in terms of numbers. So I still feel the housemates like Adam probably do have fans of some degree (like twitter) and could influence some people. |

Sure but the Celebrity version gets like 2 or 3 million for the final? Its still doing well in terms of ratings for Channel 5 like I said. Its not going to get the ratings it used to get on Channel 4. Even in the final few series on Channel 4, the ratings weren't close to what they used to get.
You sometimes have to change the audience target in terms of numbers. So I still feel the housemates like Adam probably do have fans of some degree (like twitter) and could influence some people. ![]() I didn't say it wasn't doing well in C5 terms, or that you don't have to change the target. And I mentioned myself that the ratings fell while it was on C4. My point is that when we make allowances for the effects of the move to C5, the lower-than-on-C4 ratings it gets on C5 are like the low end of the C4 ratings (which were still higher than the C5 ones), not like the high end. And consequently that Olivor was essentially right: "The days of Big Brother stars being hugely popular with the public are long gone anyway. It's now a poxy wee show which has been 'demoted' to Channel 5. Ratings are nothing like it was in it's heyday." |

Could say the same for many other shows on TV like the X Factor which doesn't get close to the ratings it used to get.

What I said is accurate. The days of BB contestants leaving the show with huge popularity are long gone. There just isn't enough interest in the show any more. It's a pale imitation of it's former self. Saying it performs well in terms of Channel 5 may be correct but in the grand scheme of things it's a shadow of it's former self and all you're trying to do is gloss over that fact. Adam won't have any great influence over people just because he's been on BB.
Reading his twitter page it's clear he isn't the brightest. He seems incapable of seeing the bigger picture. He is both naive and stupid. Ultimately this is just a front for the Church of Scientology. It's all about promoting the cult. |

You're right Oliver, in terms of mass public appeal BB is a very small shadow of its former self. There are enough Tweets saying "OMG Adam Kelly was at my school today" to show enough people in the target market are still fans, however. Quote:

![]() That's par for the course for the person who wrote that. She has a terrible reputation. If she thinks she can bully us into shutting up on a forum where she isn't even a member, she's got another thing coming. I've cut my ties with her and her friends and I have absolutely no intention of getting into arguments with them ever again. Besides, haven't I spent this entire thread DEFENDING Adam? Do any of our cult experts know of any evidence showing a direct causal link between people attending this sort of lecture and them later becoming fully paid up Scientologists? I'd be prepared to give the people doing the marathon the benefit of the doubt as well-intentioned human beings, but I stand by the principle of not allowing Scientology projects access to our children without everyone knowing where they stand. Parents should be given the freedom to opt their children out and get their drug prevention information from more accredited sources. |
