We went to the Apple shop to get ours looked at and it’s basically fooked! The menu button is non functional they did a re-set but no joy, we suspect it may have been like this when we got
It but we always assumed it was us being ham fisted! They did offer an equivalent with a re-cycle discount of 10% still costing about £113 with only a 90 day warranty! Cause the outside is brand new but some components
Have been sourced from other devices but not from devices out in the public domain, sod that! So don’t know what to do next, maybe we could store music on our smartphones and jack this into headphones or the little speaker.
May try one of that re-cycle shops for a second hand one, any suggestions?
My mate suggested using it through a player with a remote, we have player but it does not have a remote, some times I hark back to my vynyl days!

If it's possible you could try stripping the player down, my cowan power button stopped working, after stripping it down I found the button had become disconnected, I refitted it and secured it, 6 months later it's still working fine. Cost £5 for a set of torx screwdrivers.

Had a look at it yesteday and there are no screws or alike to take it apart so it's not user servicable.

I-pods are overpriced for what they do

If you have a Smartphone use it for music. If you don't have a Smartphone, something like a Nokia X2 will hold 16Gb of music, works well as a phone (which a lot of Smartphones struggle with) and has good battery life.

If you want a separate player:

An ipod classic can hold 160GB! Name a phone or other player than can do that?

Many HDD-based players can hold 160GB. I had a Cowon around 7 or 8 years ago with a 160GB HDD.

And with 128GB Micro-SD cards the next size due for a fall in price to reasonable levels, I'd say the majority of phones are getting to that ballpark now -- without the inherent reliability problems associated with putting a working HDD inside a small plastic case and jogging around with it.

In any case, with cloud services becoming commonplace the era of the standalone MP3 player is coming to an end.

Accepted! I was assuming the OP had a "standard" i-pod with more modest memeory capability.

In which case you can probably buy an MP3 player for about a tenner!
