If The Apprentice prize is just an investment in one of the contestants businesses, why dont they just go on Dragons Den and pitch their idea there?

It would only take them 12 minutes instead of the12 weeks of dull-as-dishwater "tasks" on The Apprentice. And they would have a much higher chance of securing an investment.

And why do they have an interview ? They are not going for a job. And in the final week all Alan Sugar does is look at the contestants business ideas and decide which one he likes best. He could do that on week one. What A load of old crock!

Yeah I agree, I really think the new format is flawed and it was one of the things that made me stop watching last series I'm more into the apprentice now though, so will hopefully enjoy this series!

The investments tend to be smaller on DD e.g. the highest combined/single investment in the history of DD was £250k and this was only given out twice in all 10 series. However, they can offer less than 50% equity while Apprentice winners will have to be equal partners with LS.

Generally, I think most genuine inventor-entrepreneur types would prefer to be on DD as they don't have to waste 12 weeks on tasks that have little relevance to their biz idea e.g.Tom Pellereau said that his real aim was to be on DD

Because Dragon's Den wouldn't give you indeterminate amounts of money up to a maximum to invest in doing something you are already doing, or something vague. Ricky couldn't get money on Dragon's Den, and neither would either of the Young Apprentice Winners. Ricky can win the Apprentice because no one else left by the final has a remotely acceptable idea - they couldn't win on dragon's den either.Tom can win because no one else has anything too - and I doubt if the dragons would be very interested in nail files or worker friendly chairs either. The Apprentice also offers you prime time visibility for any talents you may have, some money from media coverage, and, in many cases, a career change, or leg up. No one has heard again of most people who turn up on Dragon's Den, in some remote TV slot.

Arguably, he could decide by week one for series one of the new format and kept his winner in regardless . However, series two was different in that probably had several potentially good projects . The problem was that he only had one he could accept as a winning one by the time he got to the final.

The show probably does need a decent job at the right level as the prize - to restore the link between show performance and winning. and, if he's going to say the prize is that you work with me, they ought to end up working with him. The problem is that sort of job doesn't seem to have been on offer since series 3. And the problem with Lord Sugar deciding the winner is that he doesn't look objectively for merit, or even potential, but for people who fit his perception of his style and the job in hand and /or who tick assorted biases and don't present a risk. As he doesn't seem able now to offer an interesting job, ideally there would just be an interesting job provided by someone else - but, then, you would have the problem of Lord Sugar interposing his criteria.

The show doesn't work because hardly anyone who turns up comes with a suitably simple, cheap, workable, idea in an area he is prepared to go into. On the other hand, Dragon's Den is hardly entertaining - about as funny as the news, with the same thing happening everytime someone, randomly selected from the ranks of the self employed and boffin types, steps forward with some trivial idea looking for money. The Apprentice still works as an entertainment show - where, well cast, people crash and burn, and consequences build into dramas, and the big secret is that Lord Sugar and his advisers are there to provide the comedy too.

I think with The Apprentice, even if you don't win, you can learn more and take more from the experience than you can with Dragon's Den.
