This. Not only am I not a fan of the Doctor/companion romance, but to this day I fail to find a single reason why out of all the people in all he worlds the Doctor would fall in love with Rose. just why? And the way it still had to be about her even after she left. But I think the even bigger trouble was when they wrote in the one sided Martha romance, who was a character that could have been pretty good, but I think this was what ruined her in the eyes of many. On the other hand he deserves major props for writing such a unique companion as Donna was, well season 4 Donna anyway (not the Runaway Bride can't even point to Germany on a map of Europe dim Donna).

Because she helped him to move from from the devastation of Time War, because she gave him companionship at a low point in his life, because she brought a sense of fun and adventure, because she believed him and supported him to the extent she gave up her own safety to return for him at the end of the POTW, because for a small moment in time when she absorbed the time vortex she saw what it was like to be him and he in turn sacrificed himself for her? Why does anyone love anyone else? For a multitude of reasons.

Yes, I could see most of what you say with season 1 Rose, but at the same time there's the fact that she was someone who was quite selfish IMO and I'm not only talking about her relationship with her mother/Mickey, but especially about her asking the Doctor to stay with her at the end of season 2 and then trying to come back despite knowing what it could do to the universe. I just couldn't understand the Doctor who destroyed his whole race to keep the universe safe loving someone who would risk the universe for their personal happiness. Of course, there's always a multitude of reasons for someone loving someone, but on a TV show I expect to see the reasons translate on screen and for me personally they didn't. There is also the fact that I found the 900+ year old Time Lord falling for a 19 year old girl just a little bit creepy.

Rose could indeed be very selfish but she could also be kind hearted and generous. The Doctor himself is of course flawed and you could argue he was selfish at the end of POTW - willing the let the Daleks unleash havoc because he couldn't bring himself to bring it to end once more. She knew the Doctor would never sacrifice the universe the end of Doomsday - they both smile sadly and snort at the thought - he doesn't even have to tell her no he won't. Personally I don't find it creepy. Love comes in many forms and it doesn't have be sexual. They care deeply for each other and that can only be a good thing.

Of course, every character is flawed in some wayor another and I confess that i am just a bit predujiced because I never warmed up to Rose or Billie Piper in the role for that matter.

The bolded is of course true, but I was under the impression that the Doctor and Rose were sexually attracted to each other and it wasn't the other kind of love you mention.
