I personally prefer it dark and can't really imagine that being a bad thing, I haven't seen the most recent ones yet though. As long as it's not really badly written/acted/filmed/all of them, that would be much worse.

I like the new series so far, (apart from 'The Rings of Ahkaten').

Especially the last three.

I think we should enjoy it while it lasts. From what I remember, when the fans of Doctor Who tried to slag off the current production back in the classic days, the show was soon cancelled. It's like 1986 again.

If history repeats, the show will get better, but the fans will destroy it anyhow. Human nature. RIP Doctor Who 2005 - 2015.

Plus ca change...

I have no idea what you're talking about.

The show will never be able to please everyone. Some people actually like the dark tone of the latest stories (me included). Tonight's episode and TRoA were poor though.

It's not for me either.

Matt Smith is getting nothing from his co-star, she is a really flat actor.

But even with someone else in the role of Clara I don't think I would be liking series 7b.

Nope, it's fantastic.

Apart from 'Rings' I've loved all of them this session - a little darker but with wonderful little bits of personal stuff in one-on-one scenes.

Unfortunately, it does seem some people just can't be pleased...too rushed, too slow, no arc, too much arc, no two parters, to silly, to serious, 'it's a filler episode' etc etc etc.

Depressing??

I don't think it's really dark and depressing, certainly not compared to something like Battlestar Galactica (2004 reboot). Matt Smith is really good at bringing a light hearted touch to the stories.

There are times when I want the show to be darker and a little more scary, though that's me speaking as an old man . A lot of people who reminisce about hiding behind the sofa are talking about childhood memories, so if it's scary enough for the kids...

It's Moffat as showrunner that's the problem.

He's good for standalone episodes, but showrunner he loses the plot.

These threads are getting ridiculous.

One minute it's too childish, then it's too complicated, then it's too dark.

What the hell do people actually want?

David Tennant back.

Some episodes are more depressing than others. But it has always been that way. I would even argue that it used to be more depressing than now, for example towards the end of DT's run in the specials and pretty much all his series finales were depressing in one way or another. Personally I enjoy both the depressing stuff and the more light hearted, so no complains from me really.

it seems like 'Doctor who is bad' is now some kind of niche bandwagon that a few people are jumping on. Not sure why. Especially in this year it seems sad that the minority view is taking the 'headlines'. The hate for this episode in the thread by the 'post while watching' brigade was again almost astounding.

I love dark stories.

As for it losing it's charm, 7B really hasn't worked for me. A couple of decent episodes, but nothing special.

I'm still extremely excited for the finale and the anniversary, though. So, I don't think it's lost it's charm, just having a lackluster run at the moment.

The thing that most makes me realize that the show is fine is that none of the criticisms of the show are very coherent as far as being a general view about what's 'wrong'. Its just so scattershot. Its Moffat. Its too many new writers. Ita not enough new writers. Its Clara. Its not Clara. Its Matt. Its not Matt. Its too dark. Its too childish. Its too silly. Its too depressing. Its too complicated. Its too simple.

It cannot be all those things.

Basically a few people don't like it for individual reasons. There is no consensus.

Why can you not accept that people are genuinely not enjoying it. It isn't some band wagon or conspiracy!

People just don't like it.

And in pretty tired of your mightier than thou attitude. Demeaning and fobbing off our opinions as a bandwagon.

I'm glad your enjoying it. Really I am. But respect that others aren't

I know it's not the done thing to say, but it's the same posters week after week moaning.

But to be fair to them... I now think it would be time for Moffat to move on. The ratings are good, but i just feel that it's getting a little bit 'samey'

It needs to be brought down to Earth.... IMHO.

Well, aside from him being in the 50th, the show has moved on from David Tennant.

When Matt Smith leaves a new actor will play the 12th Doctor.

I do respect that. But still a minority I am afraid. What I think is the problem is the negative people shout loudest and it creates this false consensus.

Anyway. Me and you have been over this before so best to leave it.

I think Matt Smith has created a character in the best traditions of Who and really lives the role. But he hasnt got anywhere near the charisma as Tennant and there is nowhere near the buzz. Tennant was the pop star Who and in that respect was a very hard act to follow.

The next incarnation choice will be hugely important to the shows future imo.

You seem to be under the assumption that the same people who think it's too childish also think it's too dark. I'm pretty sure the OP of this thread wasn't the OP of the "childish" thread.

It's a forum. There are varying opinions. It's going to happen.

You're totally right. But would you not agree that the types of criticism of the Moffat era are so bizarrely different? I find it remarkable.

Loved it all so far tbh...

Can't see where people have hated any of the episodes.
