age?
solomon caesar

question: I might be missing something but didn't he say tonight that he'd been travelling around in the Tardis for 900 years. Thought he was a lot older than that? About 200 years older than that at least?

Any thoughts?

1100 year old Doctor never happened any more after the events of The Wedding of River Song. At least that's what I've always assumed.

The Doctors age always varies a lot but presumably he lived x amount of years before stealing the TARDIS.

he said he was over 1000 in Bells though

The Doctors age has always been somewhat inconsistent though.

Really? I didn't think that was the case...

Otherwise, I think the Doctor was just generalising.

Could it mean he was (assuming he's 1100 now), 200 years old when he stole the Tardis?

The doctor was approximately 250 when he took the tardis I believe, so it would make him about 1200ish now m, so about right

He gave his age as 1200 in A Town Called Mercy which is of course after Wedding of RS.

just wondered in the OP whether this might have been significant?

I stopped taking anything seriously the Doctor says in relation to his age a long time ago.

Well I'm guessing he hasn't been with the Tardis since he was born, so nothing odd about that.

I don't think he was born and attached to the Tardis at age 0, no.

He probably entered the acadamy and realised he had a few decades or even centuries ahead of him before he even got a minor role on a TARDIS (remember, they SHOULD have a full crew , then after a portion of this, thought "bugger this" and stole the first one he found left with the engine still running and the doors unlocked

He was around 200 years old when he stole the TARDIS, so really, it's right.

No, it all happened - everything that happened between when he claims to be 906 (Day of the Moon) through to his decision to stop running at about 1100 (Closing Time). Only the events in the alternate timeline, where River didn't kill the Doctor, were undone. Things ended up exactly as we had seen in The Impossible Astronaut, with the Doctor faking his death.

Didn't the Doctor mention he was 1200 years old now in A Town Called Mercy? Madam Vashta mentioned he'd not been travelling for a long time in The Snowmen too.

I don't think the Doctor really knows his age....

Yeah that's one of the things I do wonder about his timeline - just how long he was parked on that cloud for. I presumed several years at least. Assuming he didn't turn up there until after Demon's Run, it's a possible four year gap. Of course that doesn't discount where he might have been hiding out before that.

Moffat has said that he believes that's the case. The Doctor doesn't keep a calendar and has no real reason to know his exact age.

It seems that the Doctor was approximately 200 and something when he first took the TARDIS, as established in 'The Doctor's Wife' - she complains that he's never asked her name before, despite being together for seven hundred years (the Doctor at this point claims to be 906-ish).

Him taking the TARDIS at 235 was established way back in the 4th Doctor Era.

The 700 years given in The Doctors Wife dates back to the point the TARDIS first became a Police Box as she is talking about the Sign on the Door (prior to that there was no Sign for the Doctor to ignore).

The Doctor was about 450 when the TARDIS became a Police Box.

The TARDIS probably has a better grasp of how much time has passed than the Doctor so in reality the Doctor was probably about 1100 - 1150 during the Doctors wife and if 250 years have passed since then (as the Doctor claims) he's now about 1350 - 1400.

Indeed. Didn't the Seventh Doctor claim to 953? Yet the Ninth and Tenth Doctors claimed to be 900 - 903.

He's been lying about his age for some time now.

Just cos he stole the Tardis 900 years ago doesn't mean he is 900 years old. I'm pretty sure he didn't steal it the day he was born!

It could be that before the Time War he gave his age in Gallifreyan years and after the Time War, with Gallifrey no more, he decided to do so in Earth years. That could account for the 7th Doctor / 9th & 10th Doctors age anomaly.

However, lying about his age is probably nearer to the truth.

That's very plausible.
