in the snowmen after the Doctor Who logo came up there was the lightning crackling effects, now since this year new series has stated even though the lightning effects are still there the crackling noises have stopped, why?

does it really matter? I didn't notice myself.

I think the opening title visuals, and certainly the music, has changed every episode since The Snowmen, although sometimes only very subtly.
Whether this has any significance, I don't know.

The crackles were there tonight (just checked iPlayer) but the little beeps near the start were missing and I believe have been for a while now. You can certainly tell that the theme is different from The Snowmen, it's really got the underlying classic theme in there now. I wonder if they'll update The Snowmen for the DVD or keep it as it was when it aired? Perhaps they weren't initially happy with TS theme but had to rush it to get it out in time?

Wasn't that just for the snowmen? The sounds of ice shards?

The intro did feel different tonight...thought it was just me.

Regardless, the logo is utterly terrible. I don't understand why it is a mixture of white and grey whenever the logo on the website is silver and the logo used in many other places is blue.

Almost as bad as the pointless, awful looking instagram filter effects on the series 7 titles.

Christmas Episodes have always had, ...let's say a different build of new theme, remember Series 4 with the Voyage of the Damned? that was the first time we got a new remixed Intro, and that one had a MUCH louder drum mix compared to the final one we got for the rest of Series 4.

Here I consider it the same thing, The Snowmen mix felt very chaotic and had cold highs, where as the one we have now feels more toned down so everything is in line, yes the sparks have been turned down to, and the bass and synth of the main theme have been raised so they are more clear.

The blue version is outdated, and is the one used from 2010 to 2011. The 2012 episodes used the logo as a couch gag.

That Voyage of the Damned theme was my FAVOURITE!!
They calmed it down a bit after that (to my disappointment) - loved that heavy percussion, piano and guitars!
The current theme is a bit twee to say the least!! (reminds me of Colin Baker's era - "Trial" YUK!!)

Voyage of the Damned was THE best intro by far.

Love it

I miss the very subtle synth beeps/rings that were in the "Tardis chase" part of The Snowmen version of the opening credits.

I bet not many people actually noticed them though - they're very peripheral in the sound mix.

I miss them too.

Loving the original-sounding bassline though, especially when the actors' names come up. I just really, really hate the X-Files lead. I thought it was weak then, nearly 20 years ago.
