The name of the doctor? Really?

It will change the course of Doctor Who so far. (according to recent interviews)

So! What could the name actually, seriously be?

Presumptions:

Clara seems to have found out - it didn't bother her too much. Wasn't scared or amazed too much but it seemed to interest her.

Must be someone we would know. But can't be God or anything like that.

Figure from history? Or does it have to be another Time Lord? If it was another Time Lord than how would Clara recognise it.

Maybe it's something he's better known as - something to do with the Time War - like the Saviour of the Universe or something (not Flash obviously).

Thoughts?

Would it make a difference to know The Doctor's name as surely it could change whenever there is a reset. So if Clara was to go and look in the book again, it could be different to what she saw before. So The Doctor's name could be ever changing

Good point, seems a bizarre storyline. For 50 years, fans have been happy with The Doctor - why even bring it up that there's a name.

must be something else (other than an actual name).

A rose by any other name would smell as sweet.

And yes, I get the reference to a previous companion there

It would be weird if his name turned out to be Susan. Granddaughter you say?

From what I've seen, I'm just taking a punt here that I think Clara may be River Song ...

I can see where your going with the Susan thing. Every episode has father or daughter motif but could be a moffat red herring.

I think some people are missing the point, it's not the name that is significant, which is what she read.

But the significance behind it.

Of course we will not find out his name.

At least that's how I have viewed it.

I think the "changing the course of Doctor Who" isn't actually referring to his name.

I think it's referring to the idea of the "real 9th Doctor" - actually changing the character's canonical history would "change" the show more than REVEALING part of his history. So yeah.

I really don't think they will reveal his name in the finale, no matter what the title is called.

Actually so far we've only been told that the Doctor's greatest secret is what will change the whole show. But it has never been stated that the secret is actually the Doctor's name, that's just what most people assume, partly also because of the name of the finale. However knowing Moffat I think it would be just a bit too obvious if that actually was what it is and he's just screwing around with us with these interviews.

It would be strange if it turned out to be .. Ian Chesterton with the original Doctor actually being an older version of himself.

It will turn out to be something like 42.

I think his name will just turn out to be "Who", but the real twist will be that he never actually got a PhD!

He's called Adolf Hindley. His forename and surname only really cause a problem on the one planet where he likes to pick-up girls during the late 20th and early 21st centuries.

Clara may not have thought anything of the name because she doesn't know much about the Doctor, the Time War or anything that would really make any name have much significance to her.

But I agree, I don't think the Doctor's name will be the real game changer in the finale, that's too obvious for Moffat...

You'll never find out his name. His name will be the key to revealing something else in the finale and that will be the big game changing issue. The name however won't actually be heard.

yeah, I think you are right. once the name is spoken something will happen, that was the prophecy right?

doesn't mean we'll hear it. We can't really can we. but Clara reading it in the Time War book implies that there is an interesting second identity that we'll probably never know...

His actual name won't be revealed. There will be some other explanation for the title of the finale. Probably something clever and complicated that none of the fans can possibly have worked out.
