I wouldn't mind a clever and complicated denouement if the clues were there all along. Unfortunately, I suspect it will just be a "spoiler-proof" explanation plucked from thin air.

Maybe I was the only one watching the bit at the start then, where they seemed to be coming to the end of a discussion just as we joined them, and the doctor had decided to show her some Tardis flying basics.

The 'series of one liners' thing is not something I've really noticed. I've been meaning to watch them all again so maybe I'll look out for it in the rest to see if I notice it more.

EDIT: How did this end up in here- I wasn't even in this thread?
Was the other one deleted while I was typing or something? ( It had people saying Clara only ever talks to the Doctor in one liners)

If you go by what Clara said in 'Journey', the significance is not what the name is, but why the Doctor had to change it. And potentially, why he chose 'Doctor' over another alias, or a real name.

If his name is hidden in plain sight - then could it be written on the front of the TARDIS?

The name obviously had no significance to Clara but it could be some famous historical Gallifreyan figure like Rassilon or Omega (presumably not Rassilon or Omega, though!).

Or maybe he's actually related to one of the more powerful races like the Eternals or Osirians.

It's interesting that the Master has also never revealed his name. I wonder if they both have a part to play in this name business.

If it's anything like all the other over hyped episodes, the 50th anniversary episode will not reveal anything exciting at all, it's just an obvious attempt to boost the viewing figures (and yes, I'll be watching).

I think the quote is that it's the question that's in plain sight, rather than the answer.

I recon his name is the key to the timelock? once his name is spoken it will the lock will open and the timelords will be able to escape. would be a good idea as nobody should know his name to speak it

Or "Pull to open", and that's why he keeps pushing.

Yeah, because going by the old Who Gallifrey episodes he'd get stuck in a committee hearing about how naughty he is or something.

I'd rather they stick with the running around manically waving the sonic about.

Saint John?

Or John Saint.

Whatever it is it could be related to the word "saint", which is on the front of the tardis and is also hidden in the words "plain sight"

Yeah I think it could be St. John or similar - it also fits with the medical theme of Doctor - St. Johns Ambulance

So! What could the name actually, seriously be?

Presumptions:

Clara seems to have found out - it didn't bother her too much. Wasn't scared or amazed too much but it seemed to interest her.

Must be someone we would know. But can't be God or anything like that.

Figure from history? Or does it have to be another Time Lord? If it was another Time Lord than how would Clara recognise it.

Maybe it's something he's better known as - something to do with the Time War - like the Saviour of the Universe or something (not Flash obviously).

Thoughts?”

that's the odd bit ^ , she read it as if it were something interesting but not awful or shocking . And it has to be something that she could understand , something in her reference .

Why should she? She was commenting on the fact that the Doctor never gave a name. People ask him "Doctor who?" and he says "Just 'The Doctor'".

She assumed that he had no name but when she read the book she said "That's who!" and then questioned the Doctor on why he never gives his name when he clearly has one.

It could have said 'Fred' or 'Framburglesnip" and she would have reacted the same. The point is, it was just a name. Not one she recognised but the fact that he had a name and never used it was what she was curious about.
