Could RTD return when Moff leaves?

Could RTD return when Moff leaves?

Do you think this would be possible, or not likely to ever happen?

Maybe that's part of the reason RTD has refused to write for Doctor Who since leaving because he is waiting to take over as show runner again.
I personally would welcome him back with open arms, I'm a great fan of his work and really miss him being apart of the show.

I also like Moff I just feel his time has come to a natural end... after doing the 50th it seems like a natural place for anyone to leave. I don't think any of the current people who have been suggested to take over as show runner would be up to the job (unless Neil Gaiman agreed to do it).

So how about another four years of RTD then the Moff could take over again? Or how about some ultimate force where they share the role of show runner and writing episodes?
RTD could write four episodes a year, Moff four then the rest go to other writers.

RTD has no desire whatsoever to come back. He has been very candid about the negative impact it had on his life and relationships, even though he passionately loves the show.

His husband is battling brain cancer at the moment. I think he has bigger priorities.

No I don't think he will return. Also the show will be worse off with his return in my opinion yes his era was successful but Doctor Who should demonstrate that it doesn't rely on one person. I think there should be a new person taking over from Moffat. I have no objection to RTD writing one off episodes in the future.

He should write an episode now and again.

I would welcome back RTD to write the occasional episode with open arms and a big parade. Because he was brilliant. Not because the show needs him. He is just a fantastic writer.

But he will never run the show again. He doesn't want to. I don't want him to.

On a side note its funny that quite often those that don't like this era of the show call for new writers. Doctor Who is and always has employed the very best.

No. Doctor Who is all about change. There's about as much point to RTD returning as showrunner as there is to David Tennant returning as the Doctor (I'm not counting the 50th special, because that's something else). The next showrunner needs to be a breath of fresh air compared to both RTD and Moffat.

I think he made it very clear that he has completely finished his time on Dr Who. He didn't even want to write occasional episodes when Steven Moffat offered him the chance.

Even though I really wish he would, it is likely never going to happen.

I hope not, his time was good, but the show is all about change and moving forward. The Moff has done a great job, just like all the classic show runners, he has had ups and downs.

Whoever replaces him will be just as good and just as criticizer as all the rest. That is the nature of who and its fans.

No, he will not return. Not as showrunner anyway.

It would be interesting to see him write occasional episodes. Just to see if he approaches it in the same way he would if he were the showrunner.

I definitely think RTD would do a great job on the odd episode here and there. I think, given the time and space to focus, he would come up with some absolute crackers. I always felt that some elements in his stories felt rushed or not-fully-realised or just predictable, I think if he didn't give himself so much to do (as I understand it, he rewrote a lot of other people's scripts himself) he produced his best work.

Since when have previous writers came back like that, and isn't he busy writing Wizards Vs Aliens?

I loved the RTD years but agree that the show is all about change. I'm hoping for Chris Chibnall next!

I think the job of the next showrunner is between:
Mark Gatiss - His episodes haven't always been the best but he's still a fantastic writer.
Chris Chibnall - After the success of Broadchurch but will he have the time?
Neil Gaiman - Probably the least likely but he wanted to do it before.
Toby Whithouse - I think he has an equal chance with Gatiss because he's a great writer ad his show has just finished.

I don't think Chibnall will have the time with Broadchurch coming back for another season. Probably the same goes for Neil Gaiman, even though I really wish I was wrong about that one.

Chin all might be able to do it, Moffat is presumably there until the end of next year at least.

*Chibnall, autocorrect changed it to chin all.

Chibnall is a strong possibility, at least because he was entrusted with writing Pond Life.

Those auto-correctors really are worth chin-all.

Of those listed I do feel Whithouse would be the safest pair of hands. He is a good solid writer and quite versatile. Would be really interesting to see what Gaiman would do with the show, but it could be a risk and I don't think he would want to commit to it full time.
