Even though series 5 remains my favorite Doctor Who season even in that one there was an episode or two that I found just a little bit underwhelming, the same goes for my personal 2nd best favorites 4 and 6. However with both 7A , 7B and the Christmas special I personally haven't really found any of the episodes underwhelming, even though almost each of them was different in one way or another. For me this has been the most consistent series so far (though I admit that so far the only episode that was anywhere close to wow factor for me so far was ATOD, which is less than in the earlier series, but we still have Neil Gaiman's episode and the finale to go).

I just found something enjoyable about every episode so far:

Asylum of the Daleks - My favorite of this series so far and the scene where the Doctor finds out that Oswin is a Dalek and she then saves him is one of my all time favorites scenes. It was a very strong scene for me especially because when i first watched it I had no idea that JLC was returning later on. And Oswin remains my favorite version of Clara.

Dinosaurs on a Spaceship and Power of Three- While I didn't find the episodes particularly memorable, those were the kind of lighter episodes that you need to see sometimes. It was fun to see the Doctor staying with the Ponds in TPOT and also to see him with Brian in both episodes.

A Town Called Mercy - Lots of people seem to dislike this episode, but personally I like it when the Doctor turns a bit dark and when he needs to be remained about what's right (and this episode was sort of the Waters of Mars moment for 11). Also I always find it interesting when the shows works with moral dilemmas such as the one in this episode.

The Angels Take Manhattan - This episode wasn't easy for me to watch because the Ponds were my first companions but it was such a beautiful heartbreaking episode. Also it had the return of one of my fav characters River. Also how beautifuly shot was that scene where Amy and Rory jump of the building?

The Snowmen - As I already said I love dark!Doctor. Also, the return of Vastra, Jenny and Strax. While it was a very sad episode both to relation to the Doctor missing the Ponds and Clara's storyline, pretty much every line in the conversations between the Doctor and Strax were pure comedy gold. Also 'I'm a lizzard woman from before the beginning of time and this is my wife'.

The Bells of Saint John - The clever way that the Dotor fooled them. Also why I mentioned that I love when the Doctor is dark, I also love the goofy Doctor and Matt Smith was on top form in this one in that respect, especially in the scene with the cakes. it just reminded me of why he's my Doctor, of his alienness.

The Rings of Akhaten - Yes, it had some major plot holes such as what happened when the sun was destroyed, but IMO it had more positive moments for me. of course THE speech. Also, I even loved the resolution with the leaf and it made perfect sense to me and it seemed quite logical - what could have been is infinite and therefore stronger than whatever was, even 1200 of the Doctor's memories. Also while I know many dislike it, I love the endings where the battle is won with words. Words are power even in our world.

Cold War - I am rather interested in that part of history, so it was definitely an intirguing episode for me. And I loved the creepy atmosphere of the submarine. I was surprised by it because I enjoyed it more than any other Mark Gatiss episode asides from Unquiet Dead. I hope it will be similar with Crimson Horror.

Hide - I love ghost hunting stories, so there was no way I was going to be dissapointed by this one and it delivered. I even liked the love story ending, it was just so bonkers that it fit right into Doctor Who for me. Also some great scenes from Matt Smith - 'I am the Doctor and I am afraid'

The Journey to the Centre of the TARDIS - Clara running around the TARDIS and discovering all the small tidbits about it/the Doctor. The revelation of who the monster was. The Doctor telling Clara about the other Claras. The only thing asides from the three brothers (at least the "android" one was written asa sort of likeable character asides from the bad acting unlike the other two) I'm not sure about is the resolution, which makes Clara forget everything.

With Neil Gaiman's episode and the epic finale coming up this is shaping up to be one of my favorite DW series so far. Anyone share my sentiments about it?

The ones highlighted were my favourites but you forgot about The power of three.

I agree, series 7 is proving fairly consistent. Series 6 had a couple of stinkers - The Curse of the Black Spot and the truly terrible Night Terrors.

Great to see some positivity for a change.

However, for me, the second part of this series has arrived after tonights 'Journey to the Centre of the TARDIS', a great episode! AND FINALLY... more focus on the story arc, which for me is the greatest bit about DW!

Overall it's been a good series, Dinosaurs and Rings were average episodes for me, otherwise I think it's been a pretty strong bunch of episodes overall.

My favourites being Hide, Asylum and Angels (also The Snowmen but I tend not to include that in series 7 because of historical precedent)

I mentioned it alongside with Dinosaurs. There just something light about the two episodes that always makes me put them together.

I thought the first half of series 7 was good. The best episode for me has been Asylum of the Daleks. The only episode in the first half of series 7 I found underwhelming was the Power of Three which was a complete cop out regarding the story.

Series 7 part 2 on the other hand has been awful. The Bells of St John was decent I admit and hide was better than average but that's all. The singing one was a pile of crap, Cold War was extremely disappointing and The journey to the center of the TARDIS got off to a fantastic start but the ending was a complete mess.

This will probably me 2nd least favorite series next to 5.

I am loving this series. However. I tend to enjoy most DW as broadcast and for me where this run will really come into its own will be on rewatching it as a whole. Whatever might be said I prefer to think of this as Season 7. Yes its been somewhat disjointed due to the nature of the way its been broadcast and the questions around that. But when we get that boxset and sit down and watch it all I think it will really come into its own and the epic scale of it will be evident for all to see. I think the season split has put more pressure on individual episodes and has caused many to forget the mid season lulls that have always occurred.

It hasn't yet had a stone cold classic single episode that joins the very very best in my opinion though Asylum and The Angels are pretty darn close. Bur it is easily one of the most consistent and is exactly what was needed after the arc heavy season 6.

I have big hopes for the remaining episodes which could be the best yet so am very excited.

Funnily enough my least favourite episode was The Bells of St John but when that is the low point you know how damned good the show is.

Rating it in regards to previous New Who it currently sits behind S5, S3 and S1 but could move up based on the rest of the run and how it stands up on rewatching.

Still the best thing on television and has a vibrancy and variation that no other show can come close to. It is a genuine privilege to watch a show this good.

I really liked 7A, especially "A Town Called Mercy". I love modern-made westerns anyway, and really liked the sci-fi twist with the Gunslinger. It was one of the darker and deeper episodes, and I especially loved how it wasn't a clean-cut "good vs evil" story. The Gunslinger and Jex were both very sympathetic and neither was truly bad, which always makes for a better story imo. It was even better because I expected a light piece of fluff, it was much heavier than I expected.

7B hasn't wowed me so far, but I'm still extremely excited for the coming episodes.

I've liked them all too. Not quite as good as series 6 I would say though. (overall so far that is)

The only episode from the two series (they are two different series, whatever the BBC say) that I don't really like much is Asylum of the Daleks. Other than that, I've liked them all to some extent. The Angels Take Manhattan and Journey to the Centre of the TARDIS are the stand-outs for me.

Prefer Series 6, but Series 7 has been fine, certainly preferable to both Series 2 and 3.

Agree with the OP.

*Shock Horror* - Overall I'm quite happy with the current series, no big complaints. Keep 'em coming.

I'm really enjoying it. I'm more into the over all story arcs in DW rather than individual stories, but the individual stories have held me. The stories are also clearly thought ou and t fit nicely into the 45 minute slots.

Some of the RTD era episodes felt like they were missing bits as the story premises felt like they would of been better suited for 2 parters. You would sometimes get plot-holes and continuity errors too.

The Snowmen is the first Christmas episode I've sat through from beginning to end since 2005. Admittedly I have yet to watch last year's and may off missed the 2 parter one from a few years back. The titanic Christmas episode is in my worst 5 episodes ever.

Well, I have really loved even one of the episodes I wasn't looking forward to last night, so I was greatly surprised and considering that there are only Gaiman's Cybermen and the finale left, it does seem that no episode will disapoint me this season.

Wish I could! By far the worst of Series 7 IMO. It reminded me of the RTD era...and that's not a good thing from my viewpoint. I agree with the OP, Series 7 has been solid. The only other episode I didn't like was The Rings of Akhaten (and even that was nowhere near as bad as the weekly 'worst evarrrr!!!' brigade would have you believe) and while there's been no standout like The Girl Who Waited, the rest have been very enjoyable. So far I'd put Asylum of the Daleks, The Angels Take Manhattan, The Bells of Saint John and Hide at the top, in no particular order. Need a rewatch of the whole series before being able to do a definitive ranking .

Apart from the first episode I have been disappointed by every episode in this series. Last night I just lost interest and lost the plot. I couldnt even tell you what it was about. Mind you neither could the writer probably!

Well i have to say every episode so far has either been very good/great/excellent....much like how i feel with series 5 and 6 definitely.

Series 6 is my favourite series (just ahead of series 5) but seeing that in the next two episodes so much more is gonna happen...i dont know where it may end up ranking....thus far my series rankings look like this (wont place series 7 yet!)

series 6
series 5
series 1
series 4
series 3
series 2

My favourite episodes for series 7 have been - Asylum, Manhattan, Snowmen, Hide and The Crimson Horror as pure 10/10 perfect stories and i have loved and/or liked every other episode too Lets see where it will end up ranked.

My top eight so far:

1. Angels Take Manhatten (on an ideas level more than a narrative level, even I though that aspect was a bit jumbled

2. Asylum of the Daleks- Just a great atomspheric and psychological thrill ride with plenty of angst, soap opera, mind-games, and unpredictability. Lots of ideas making up for the lack of classic Daleks

3. A Town Called, Mercy: Great rip-roaring tense western with The Doctor's ethics put to the test and not everything has a neat and tidy ending

5. Cold War

4 The Bells of St. John

6. Journey to the Center of the TARDIS....despite the reset button ending I consider it a strong outing full of surprises and ideas.

7. Hide

8. Crimson Horror

I'm keeping the other numbers free to see where I place NIS and NOTD...I like Chibnall's episodes but they didnt seem to jump out at me and they are a little too ordinary to be included in a top ten, which I guage purely on either ideas, strong narrative, or thrills and spills.

Except he did...and if you pait attention you would have too.

Why are you dissapointed in every episode? You getting too old for it or something?

Sadly I can't agree with the thread title, as series 7 still ranks very low down on my series rankings at the minute.

My top 5 of this series is easy, as they're the only episodes I've really loved. In chronological order:

Asylum of the Daleks
The Angels Take Manhattan
The Power of Three (for what it was - a character episode - not for the 'villains')
Journey to the Centre of the TARDIS
Hide

The Crimson Horror, The Bells of St John, Cold War and A Town Called Mercy were average to decent episodes, but nowhere near 'excellent' territory.

The rest have been pretty rubbish, and there are definitely more episodes I've thought poor this series than any other since series 2. Overall, I haven't enjoyed the attempts at being cinematic and epic with so many standalone stories, and I think the series has been missing something, more notably since the Ponds departed, but it didn't completely feel right before then either.

Why do you continually tell people that they are "getting too old for it" when they say they disliked an episode??

I'm enjoying the second half of 7 far more than the first half, but as a whole it still lags way behind 4,3,1 and 2 (in that order) of my favourites.

It's easily my favourite Matt season though, which is great as my DW mojo is returning just in time for the 50th....

It has been very mixed series for me. I've liked most episodes but there's something very off about the acting (or directing) in this series. It has also seem rather simplistic an shallow compared to previous series (likely due to the complaints of series 6 being seen as too complex by some)

Some very poorly acted moments which really needed an extra take or two. Very poor delivery of lines at times and some very OTT hammy acting. SM's weakest IMO.
