Have two of this forum's most helpful posters really been banned?

Not permanently, surely?

Why do you think they have been banned?

If you look at flagpole's profile, for example, you'll see he is listed as an inactive member.

I hope its not permanent, as you say they are very helpful and know more than a bit about computers.

anniebrion has always been polite and helpful.

There are a couple of pro Mac, anti Wndows 8 members who could do with banning.

Banned? That'd be a shame, they were always here helping people, answering the frustratingly common questions so patiently.

flagpole posts in GD and politics, so l guess it would be a thread there.
Looks like annie had a few debates in Sky threads.

No way! In all my time here they have helped me with advice on technical issues since day one. In fact, before I even registered here I can remember checking out their posts on various subjects for help.

Unfortunately, as has recently been discussed http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showthread.php?t=1821529 and http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showthread.php?t=1819125 there are still rules, we will always be guests in someone elses playground and if any of us does something deemed wrong then our wrists will be slapped.

Fingers crossed, though, that this is only a temp ban...

I assumed it was, initially. But... it's been a while for the two of them.

Not sure what the maximum length of a temp ban is. Anyone?

flagpole has been posting in mobile a lot too, but nothing inflammatory, though it does get heated in there.

Yeah, he's had a few arguments in the mobile section with someone called Hugh, I think, but admittedly Hugh has had a few different log-ins and he winds up other members, too.

18/4 for flagpole and 6/04 for annie... I'm guessing the temp bans are manual so we're reliant on a mod remembering to unban them... I don't think anything is in black and white regarding the length of bans but I could be wrong...

The only reference I can find in the rules regarding bans is:

""Where has my thread gone?" "Why was my post removed?" "Why was I/XX banned?"
These are not questions that can be answered on the forum. Please contact us directly with your query via http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/contact/?contact_type=forum

Annoying being on this side of things but on the two forum sites I was a Mod/Admin on admittedly we didn't discuss bans/deletions in the public threads, unless something/someone had blatantly, obviously, broken the rules. All discussion over bans was done in the private, Admin only, forum sections and/or PM and, even then, the forum owners had the last call over everything.

Does anyone know who the Mods/Admins are on DS? I think this is the only forum I've ever been on were the Mods/Admins are anonymous.

People have had 24,48 hour bans and week long ones.
There is no progression, you can get s permanent ban immediately as our friend robert might tell us.

I quite agree. However, I note that she has mentioned ill health over in another area, so maybe she has become "inactive" at her own request.

Wish her well, of course.

I did wonder that. She was getting lots of flak on the Sky forums. She is still contactable via her website http://abcde.co.uk/ perhaps.

As a member that has been banned several times by the "mods" it's very easily done

A simple typo or genuine error and the bast4rds instantly switch you off without even being able to say sorry or give an explanation

It's there interpretation of the rules and that's final...

Good luck, you 2 will be missed...

I hadn't noticed that they have been missing, but I haven't been on here much the past couple of weeks.

And yes, the moderation can be swift and heavy handed, without recourse. Welcome to DS.

I guess we will see if they show up again at some point soon!

The diplomatic way of saying someone went nuts with the banhammer and we will never know why. Those 2 were both major contributors to the forum and I'm sure have helped many over the years so I certainly hope they aren't gone for good..

Unfortunately someone will inevitably be along shortly to lock the thread and tell us all to bugger off to the contact page since you aren't allowed to discuss these things

Annie appeared to be banned as she was using multiple accounts after the whole Sky forum fallout.

The other account she used has also been banned (tinky-winky)

if this were Facebook I'd hit 'like' on this post.

they are both now classed as Inactive Members meaning they've both been served bans.
