SPOILER annoyance

Thankfully, I did not read the article posted LAST WEEK from Dr Who Online.
http://news.drwho-online.co.uk/710-J...e-Preview.aspx

This was in relation to the episode on the 27th April, Journey to the Centre of the Tardis.

Had I had read it, I would be FURIOUS that the so-called "non-spoiler preview" spoiled what I found the best dialogue of the episode. Notice point 5 in the things to look out for.

I cannot believe that this was considered "non-spoiler" material. Having enjoyed the episode free from any spoilers, I can guarantee that my perception of the episode would have been ruined and I'd not have got quite the same value out of that reveal from Clara's visit to the library in the Tardis.

I want this kind of stuff banned.

And I'm shocked it was in the episode thread so early, too.

Banned? Yes, lets ban everything.

Who is exactly is going to ban this kind of thing? Who will be in charge. I don't want to live in that kind of Big Brother world. Slippery slope.

If you are that precious, then any type of review before the episode would be stupid to read.

How is that a spoiler? it gives nothing away that hasn't already been said in the series. This was a spoiler-free preview and we stick by it.

Don't read previews then. They will contain elements the writer doesn't believe to be a spoiler. If you consider the slightest piece of information a spoiler then you don't read previews, look at teasers etc. It really is that simple.

Reading a Doctor Who site, particularly reviews of future episodes on a Doctor Who site, when you're trying to avoid spoilers, is just asking for trouble. If you're going to be a spoilerphobe, commit and avoid everything that might spoil you or stop moaning and join in the spoiler fest with the rest of us.

+1

There's no real reason to ban stuff like this. Generally, things get banned when they might cause some form of harm to others.

What's the harm here? Someone's enjoyment of a TV show or film gets spoiled? That's not a cause for regulation or legislation.

Perhaps a bit OTT, OP, but I see what you mean. I try and avoid (unsuccessfully, usually) spoilers, so I go for spoiler-free (p)reviews before the show airs. This is purely to build my own excitement for the coming episode. But I try to be very careful who I read.

I tend to find Den Of Geek's spoiler-free review pretty good, even if I don't agree with their views afterwards. They are very spoiler free, but do just enough to stoke the fires.

Are you the official owner of the Dr Who Online site?

Actually, I didn't realise you were a member of these forums, so thanks for your response.
I'd have replied sooner but was away until Doctor Who day.

I've also calmed down now
Sorry for going OTT, as has been mentioned by some posters.

Perhaps I could ask you, how did you stumble across the information 6 days in advance of the episode, JttCotT?

My feelings were based on that I found the reveal that Clara had found out the Doctor's Name a magical moment in the episode, and considering the material deemed as "non-spoiler" on the drwho-online website.
I would argue that that reveal should have been left out of a preview media.

I disagree that it was considered non-spoiler because it was a very direct relation of the actual scene, rather than a hint, as so many other reasonable non-spoiler advances have been.
Something like "Clara finds out something personal about the Doctor" and "A book in the library contains something very interesting" would be "non-spoiler".

Note to other forumites. I am NOT complaining that it was spoiled for me.
I am debating the labelling of the non-spoiler material to be false.

I retract my request for banning, that's just daft and I am well aware that nobody polices things online I was merely posting in annoyance. However, please if you misunderstood my original post, then I repeat, I was not posting about foolishly reading a spoiler.

But if possible, I don't mind continuing the conversation about whether or not it should have been labelled non-spoiler.

QFT. I'm avidly and passionately avoiding spoilers for Iron Man 3, Man of Steel, or Star Trek, and so I've removed all spoilers from Facebook and I just don't visit the sites or the threads on here that might contain spoilers.

Going on any site that might spoil anything, however lightly, is a big no no. But you only have yourself to blame!
