We foraged a load of nettles at the weekend, & made nettle soup, delish. We have been getting into 'wild food' a bit lately and we foraged other stuff (herby type things) as well. If you have the time and inclination to research it and learn whats good and whats not (!) its worth it because obviously theyre free Quite a lot of it is aquired taste - i.e. convincing yourself its tasty, not just tasting of 'green' but its fun too. There is plenty of stuff out there that you can use in salads, and as veg or to put in risottos etc instead of the herbs you'd be buying from the supermarket.

I wouldn't mind trying nettle soup. What's the flavour like? A bit spinachy?

Yes, apparently nettles can be pretty much used as a substitute wherever you'd have spinach - but multiple times better for you
To be perfectly honest though the soup was also flavoured with onions, potatoes and garlic so the nettles 'taste' as such was/is only a bit more than a hint -although it is distinguishable.
You need to pick just the tops of the nettles as well or apparently they taste awful/bitter. As I say only just getting into the whole wild-food thing ourselves, so as much trial and error than anything

Thanks. Your soup sounds really nice - I love spinach and potato soup. Might give this a go.

Wouldn't eat anything growing in my neighbourhood sadly. Either wee'd on (not just by animals) or been trampled or next to a busy road with car fumes and pollutes all over it.

Made a list for my shopping this week. Not healthy by any means but I can't afford to try new food right now except the super cheap stuff I chose to try.

Got
1 Creamfields 4 pint of milk - £1
15 Eggs - £1.34
Tesco Value Tikka and rice - £0.80p
Tesco Value Lasagne - £0.80p
*2 Loose brown onions £0.38p
4 Branston Beans (half price) - £1.27
2kg Oven Chips - £1.32
20 Value Sausages - £1.00
Tesco value cheese pasta - £0.23p
Tesco value Spicy Curry noodles - £0.23p
Tesco Chowmein Insta-noodles - £0.28p
*24 sachets of cat food (on a deal) - £5.00

And then the bad stuff I could save money on if I tried but I need something to look forward to and enjoy. But as cheap as I can get anyway and will actually last me a long while.

8 Value Sausage rolls - £1.31
2 Bottles of 2 Litre Pepsi - £1.78 total (85p each. Would never pay full price)
Bag of Cheeseball Crisps - £0.69p
Bag of Onion Ring Crisps - £0.69p
4 Egg Custard tarts - £1.10

Total combined: £19.22

*24 kitty meals for a fiver helps me spread the cost of feeding my cat a little more and means I won't need to buy any cat food next week.

Also I already have plenty of potatoes (and Onion Gravy) so the onions are to go with them and the sausages for Bangers and Mash.

No fruit or vegetables at all? It's not expensive! Everyone needs something delicious and unhealthy to look forward to, but it seems that you've got a fair bit. You could cut one of those things out and buy a bag of apples, at least. Did you look at the link Jackie posted? There are some good suggestions for a cheap, healthy diet there. What happened to buying some mince/cheap meat and cooking up a big portion of something homemade to freeze and serve with the rice you already have?

I know from your recent thread in Advice that you have some health issues. A half-decent diet is not a cure-all, but it can really help with mental and physical issues. Even if you attempted to be just a tiny bit healthier, you might be surprised at the difference it makes.

I already have some apples and Grapes someone got for me at the fruit market. Plus I have frozen Veg in my freezer where I have been stocking up since before my budgeting. Plus some tinned stuff sitting in the cupboard.

Mince is on next weeks menu.
