Does anyone else wish the 50th was a film.

Seeing as they're making (at minimum) a 60 minute special for the 50th, it seems a shame that they didn't want to come up with a 2 hour episode that could have been released in cinemas. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind that its a tv special as its free and available to watch again. It just would have been nice to have a proper feature length film again.

Just be grateful that the BBC are having a special episode of the show to mark 50 years since Dr Who started in 1963.

It would have been nice if they could've lengthened the special to make it 1 and a half hours if not longer, so it could, in a way be classed as a film.

We have had three other films for Dr Who in the past. The two Peter Cushing ones, based on two William Hartnell 'Who' stories, plus the Paul McGann 1996 TV outing, which was OK, apart from the US setting. Paul was quite good as an incarnation of the Doctor.

We also have a few movie like versions of classic stories on DVD. Curse of Fenric with Sylvester McCoy for one. They squidged all the episodes together as one long episode, taking out all the titles and end credits, apart from the beginning of episode 1 and end credits for the last one. The running time came to just over 1 and a half hours.

The Five Doctors Special Edition DVD in 2008, featured the original length version. plus it included the 1995 version, that had some deleated scenes put back in. Enhanced stereo was used, plus a few CGI effects too. The running time on the SE version was 1 hour and 40 mins. That's nearly ten minutes longer than the original broadcast!

There was talk about this a couple of years ago and the timescale or two to three years would (if the lesser) have fitted with it

But this was more about a standalone film rather than an extended episode, and was pretty quickly killed off. I suspect they discussed it then changed their minds. Personally I would have hated to see that kind of standalone thing take off as the chance of the TV show being left going in parallel would be slim

I don't think it should be a film as such, but I think it should be 90 minutes and I might be slightly disappointed if it isn't.
It would be even better if it was a two-part story with one episode broadcast on 16th November and the second part broadcast on the 23rd.
