it wouldnt surprise me if dettol worked (if the sterile theory was correct) (dont know if thats alkali for drying it up)

I mentioned Cepton cos I know they add the ingredient used by surgeons to wash their hands (Chlorhexidine Gluconate). Having said that, our skin has friendly bacteria too. Maybe we kill that with these things. No idea

I think people can also get spots from allergies to food or cosmetics or whatever too. Maybe poor quality air in the house could be a factor etc. Also, habitually touching the face with unwashed hands

the main thing is to find the true cause if possible

Well toothpaste was pretty heck-spensive too when I last looked.

I can vouch for this

I had my first coldsore in ages yesterday, only a small one but anyone who gets them will know that even small ones are a pain. So I was watching CBB last night, and there is young Kenzie with toothpaste on his zit, and while the rest of the celebs were talking about it someone mentioned that it worked for coldsores too...

"What the hell" I thought, and slapped a bit on before bed.

It hasn't gone, but it is a lot smaller, barely noticable in fact. It seems to have skipped the blister stage altogether and most importantly it has stopped itching

The things you pick up from BB

Clearasil used to be £3.50 for a 50ml tube back when I was a spotty teenager. You can get toothpaste for much less, and it has fluoride in it for your teeth. Spot treatments are one of the biggest money-spinners out there. Complete rip-off.

Most regular toothpastes contain sodium lauryl sulfate as one of their main ingredients which is comedogenic (irritates acne), so, in theory at least, toothpaste should make his acne worse.

Good point. I hear it's not so good in other ways as well.

Try tea tree oil (just on the spot itself) for a more natural approach.

You're right, toothpaste doesn't really work on acne spots (I used to use tea tree oil, this is the only thing that cleared them up for me), but it does work on normal spots.

Tree tree oil is quite good. For severe acne though the only thing that really seems to help is Roaccutane which you can only get on referal to a skin specialist by your GP.
