kree is going to have to do something sensational next week or one of the others fail big time for her to get into the finale I think
been looking like an angie v Candice battle for the last few weeks and either will be worthy winners in my book , altho angie is more to my personal taste |

But he was dead right about the overuse of 'runs' on these shows, and the fact that they are not necessary and, in fact, out of place when singing standards. I liked him. He made a lot of valid points.

harry was horrific. he was trying to be cool but ended up coming over as just plain rude, poor candice was mortified when he joked that he didnt have to hug her. he was also completely predictable & inflexible, singers are nothing more than karaoke or impersonators if they don't put any of their own styles into the songs.
that was all he was trying to say I thought and I agree 100% |

overall thought tonights show was poor
I seem to say this every week but despite how smooth Candice's voice is I just haven't really liked any of her song choices angie had her poorest week for awhile but should be safe amber's first song wasn't great either , she looked so uncomfortable singing up tempo loved harry connick as a mentor , how great would he be as a judge if someone could get him. he said something to kree in the VT before her second performance that I have said so many times over the years about contestants on these shows. too often they abuse a song to try and show of how many vocal tricks they can do and the song becomes nothing more than a vehicle for their voice. whereas they should be using their voice to showcase the song and what the song stands for. was so glad to see him pick them up on that I thought he was completely out of order and messed with their heads. I normally hate all the vocal gymnastics, but all four of these girls are masters of the 'art' and (almost always) know how to handle it. I have to say that Candice ALWAYS knows how to handle it, and is far and away the best singer I have ever seen on Idol. |

that was all he was trying to say I thought and I agree 100% ![]() I agree songs should be respected, he told each of them to 'just sing the melody' - when in fact all of them completely ignored him and did their own thing. I suppose you have to remember that it is a singing competition and you have to show off your pipes and the audience does love a high note. Quote:

Her performance last night singing with a pianist was so Adel. I hope she wins as the other two don't do it for me. There have been some really great singers on Idol that sadly never made it to the final. |

maybe they were just putting their own style on the song rather than over using runs or using "it as a vehicle to show how many vocal tricks they can do ". songs are not rigid inflexible objects, many artists add & change parts of the song on their accoustic albums & live performances just as other artists when they cover them and often, it makes them better than the original, little mix did it with How Ya Doin'? on alan carr last night.
I have no problem with acts trying to "make a song their own" to use the old cliché but that's not quite the same thing as harry connick was picking them up for again use the example of amber and my funny valentine , she was clueless about the meaning of the song , thought it was about something humorous, how can you put the proper meaning into a song when you misunderstand it as badly as that, and hiding behind doing lots of runs and hitting the odd big note cant make up for that lack of meaning imo he was trying to stop them getting into bad habits at this early stage and to understand the difference between singing a song and just performing a series of random vocal tricks to music |

well we must be listening to different things as very rarely when acts add all the vocal gymnastics to a classic song do they actually "make it better"

they were making it their own by singing it in their style (including runs - country for kree & church for candice) Quote:

Whew!! I was really willing Kree to get that last spot! I'm much more a fan of her than the judges seem to be....
I think this is Candice's contest to lose now. She really does have something extra special vocally. However, Angie is the only contestant never to have been in the bottom two - that must bode well for her chances too. In fairness though, anyone left at this stage would make a worthy winner. This season's ladies have been outstanding. Next week sees them singing 3 songs - Jimmy Iovine's choice, Judges' choice and producer's choice. Can't wait to hear what Jimmy has chosen for them! |

I've thought Kree has looked uncomfortable for a few weeks now. I don't think she is being styled well. Her make up doesn't suit her IMHO and I've thought she's looked a bit bizarre.
I'm happy Amber left as I've liked her least of the final 4. I find her pitchy on her own a lot of the time, but when she sings with the other girls (e.g. on the little mix song) I think she comes across much better than them. I find it odd that she struggles to remember lyrics - at this stage of the competition you would work at that. I do think Amber would be better in a girl band. I think she is probably still a bit immature and would have done better in a couple of years I don't mind which of the last 3 wins - I think Candice by far has the best voice but I'm not sure she has the personality to make it big. Of the final three I think Angie has the most marketable career due to her singing style and personality. |

I was sorry to see Amber go - she was my second favourite (although it was unforgivable not to know what she was singing about, if that was really the case).
Candice is my firm favourite now - Kree is so lacklustre and Angie is painfully camera-aware to the point that it has become distracting and almost comical. |

Aside from the whole Lazaro debacle everything is going right this season, it was sad to see Amber go but the top three was clear from the get-go. America have it dead on.
Hopefully Kree makes third next week, she's been great but Candice and Angie are still miles ahead. I honestly don't mind who wins out of those two, they're both amazing. |

Sad to see Amber go, but they were gunning for her for weeks, so judges got their wish.
Best wishes to her as she can do very well given a chance. Reckon judges prefer someone like Angie who lacks charisma, has no feeling for lyrics, but can play to the cameras. Pleased to see Candice in final 3, but she should be given current songs, as singing old style will have her stuck in that mould for ever, and she's too young for that. Kree did well this time, but the judges don't want her either. |

the judges have been hyping her up every week , even when she was giving flat , out of tune performances they even gave her a standing O for that very mediocre performance of my funny valentine if anything I thought shes been the one the judges have been giving more praise than she deserved |

have you been watching the same show as everyone else ?

Judges have been favouring insincere Angie for weeks. |

. [b]Didn't surprise me that Amber went as judges never liked her, which was clear to see from their comments, over the weeks, as she wasn't what they needed. [/B

You kinda ignored their comment totally... ALL of Amber's performances got a ridiculous amount of praise, even when they're not that good. The judges loved her, for some reason, not disliked her.
![]() But I reckon it's not the contestants who matters the most, as the song is more important, and if a contestant doesn't sing it the way the judges want then they are out. Amber got her compliments in the early stages, but when she didn't sing the way they wanted, they laid in on her, which showed how shallow AI has become, when it used to be more honest in the early times. I don't agree that Amber was bad, as she's got a lovely voice, and is able to sing what she wants, but in AI songs are allocated to singers , and if they sing them their way some of them get hammered for it, while others don't. It would be far better if each contestant was given a new song, as that would show their style a lot better, than using ancient songs more suited to the original singers. |

if anything , funny valentine apart, it was the older style songs that amber did better , when she tried to do something more modern or up tempo she failed badly

I thought some of the comments by HCJ were OK, but he pushed it too far. Randy was correct to say that Kree's performance would have been better if she had been allowed to do the Etta James version, as it would have suited her voice much better than what she ended up with.
I was pleased that at last America was able to vote Amber off, even though she had probably more standing ovations from the judges than anyone other than a winner. The singer they always try to talk down IMO is Angie - from the beginning they derided her pageant style. Whether she would make a good AI winner I don't know - obviously she could do well in musical theatre. Kree will do well in the country music scene and Candice has a good voice for gospel/blues. |
