There will be a free slot on Arqiva A after the BBC has finished using it for RB 302 plus a further slot when the adult Party channel isn't broadcasting. There's also a 13th slot on SDN outside Wales and potentially a 13th slot on Arqiva B (assuming there is enough overhead available with the number of radio channels on there. Then again, there's a possible 9th slot on D3&4.. assuming the unused data reservation is released and ITV / C4 reach an agreement on how it should be "shared". As you can see, there's a number of possibilities if the demand for space is there.

Just a shame none of those possibilities include improving the picture quality.

Just keep cramming 'em in.

A ninth stream on D3&4 could be full resolution if stat multiplexing is handled correctly. There's no chance of the COM muxes changing from 3/4 resolution.. as you say, "just keep cramming 'em in".

Steady on! They haven't managed to get the existing eight channels broadcast in full resolution yet!*

* except on a very limited number of transmitters

Just a matter of time.

I can only receive Emley Moor, Belmont and Bilsdale and they all have full resolution on all eight channels. I believe someone stated a while ago that all channels on Winter Hill are also full res. I'm not sure why they have taken this piecemeal approach, it does seem a little odd.

A-ha, found it: http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showthread.php?t=1798728
I don't think anything has changed since then.

Probably not, it would be interesting to see a comprehensive list of which regions are still using 3/4 res. Also some explanation for the difference between regions.

Shame this new ch won't be national (not on all transmitters), + not on freesat either. Quite poor really, goes back to the old saying *if u want these things u have to pay for them* (sky bring the only option outside cable networks).

Nothing new about that. Ch5 was not on all transmitters in the analogue days either.

Quite a few channels are unique to either freesat or freeview in the field of free TV.So thats nothing new.

Carriage has only been announced for freeview, it's quite possible that you won't even get these things if you do pay... at least not from the start.

It will be before 8am on July 8th, but will vary according to which transmitter you receive from. I deduce that from the programme schedule.

Blighty closes at 3am on the 6th according to the EPG on Virgin Media, presumably releasing playout facilities for Drama. DigiGuide has no listings for Blighty from 3am on the 1st, so there's some uncertainty there.

The channel re-numbering could take place before that with a simple mheg screen announcing the new channel.

overnights.tv states:
Quote:
“Blighty will cease broadcasting at 23:59 on 5th July, 2013.”

Technical changes are likely this week, most likely Tuesday-Thursday. Changes do sometimes happen on Mondays and Fridays - but not very often. A holding MHEG on channel 20 is most likely, with Gold and Home quietly moving to their new slots. Digital UK have so far been quiet on the matter.

Blighty's playout could technically be used to broadcast a preview loop for Drama after 00:00:01 on 6th July. But that's speculation.

3am is the usual closedown and programmes are listed to 3am on the 6th, after which it states "Channel no longer available". Time will tell but there's only 3 hours difference anyway.

Yes, they aren't really leaving much time for a preview loop.

I was going via the UKTV listings on there own website! Which shows Blighty closing at 2.56 am on the 6th. Then for the rest of the 6th Blighty no longer appears.

Which is exactly why I'm not bothered about having this new channel.
