I had a quick idea to do with this and JLCs quote that this was not the third time the Doctor had met Clara.

Maybe it is the eleventh, and the eleventh Clara will Fall. Or Die. Or whatever metaphorical thing 'Fall' means this time.

Have you thought of any ideas that are more sane?

Not a bad theory at all. But it seemed to be a prophecy about the Doctor and wasn't this prophecy in effect before Clara was even conceived as a companion? Not that creator/writers don't invent things as they go along but you had to suspect Moffat planned this arc in advance. Not sure he planned Clara in advance or knew the Ponds would be leaving at the end of series 6.

Fall could even mean the season ( as americans would say ) so the fall of the eleventh could mean that the Doctor is getting near the end?

Perhaps in some timey wimey way the fall of the eleventh is some rebound and regeneration cycle will fall back from eleven back to one
