Yeah, I think Sugar's point has often been misinterpreted. It's not that he has anything against well-educated people - on Young Apprentice, he always made a point of supporting the value of a good education. It's more that he doesn't see an academic degree as a guarantee of someone being good in business. In that respect - and I speak as someone with a host of academic and business qualifications - he is right.
You only have to look at some of Britain's most successful businesspeople - Sugar himself, Branson etc - to know that it's perfectly possible to be a great entrepreneur as long as you have a great idea and the right mindset to follow it through. Education helps, of course, but a degree doesn't enable you to spot a great idea. In contrast, some of the most academically brilliant people I know wouldn't last 5 minutes in business.
