A little puzzled by the "At Last" in thread title. We've had three excellent episodes in a row (imo).

Well IMO it wasn't even excellent. It's really one of those "My opinion is very important and deserves its own thread" things.

10/10 from me...a classic definitely...demands repeat viewing too! and next week looks set to continue this trend too!

Absolute classic!

I agree with the OP: it was a truly excellent episode - I enjoyed every minute of it.

Liked the catsuit joke but thought overall too much horror for early evening (people being lowered into the vat)

Agreed. This series started off a bit shaky but the last three episodes have been top notch. I think the show is really finding its footing again after what I consider to be a pretty poor 7a. Hopefully next year brings a full series and the show can really thrive again

Funny enough, I didn't rate this weeks episode highly, much preferred last weeks and the week before.

I'm happy to say I really enjoyed this but The Bells of Saint John and Hide are still, by far, my favourites of this run. Two to go!

Really thinking of giving this series a break now and watching all 8 episodes back to back with no big expectations later in the year.

That probably explains why I disliked it so much.

My "not too silly to grate" threshhold is obviously a fair few rungs lower.

Lots of RTD episodes had me cringing at the acting and their more shallow/childish nature.
This episode bought back the cringe factor massively for me (something that SM had thankfully almost wiped out in series 5 and 6). Pretty much everything I loathed about the RTD era. Far more CBBC than BBC.

It seemed more like a watered down Carry on Screaming minus the innuendo... with worse effects, worse jokes and worse acting.

I thought the 3 child actors were all awful as well...those two at the end being in next weeks episode doesn't sit well. Way better child actors out there (although I suppose the director is as much to blame for not doing some more takes).

I agree so much with the title. This has been the only episode of the Series 7 part 2 that I would rate as great. All the others have been such a drag except maybe The Bells of Saint John.

The ending was a bit messed up but I will forgive them that after it was so good.
Hello.

Was really, really impressed! Wow! Not really enjoyed an episode like this for ages.

Thoroughy enjoyed it. I thought Diana Rigg and Rachel Stirling were wonderful. Really looking forward to the Cybermen next week and absolutely sick of all the people knocking the series. Even when it's not at its best, it's still one of the best things on television.

I thought it was OK. Vastra and Strax were a bit underused which was a shame. Strax can be quite funny - at the risk of being a one trick pony - and I really like Vastra, especially compared to River Song.

The best thing about this episode was the pacing, something I feel part two of this series has been a little poor on. The ending didn't feel rushed and I liked the way the story was built up.

I liked the performance from Rachael Stirling and the little flashback sequence with the Doctor.

Funny how the fanboys can't accept anyone not liking an episode.

I have watched Dr Who since the very first episode with William Hartnell. I am no fanboy, but I do like the concept of Dr Who and always watch. I have seen good and bad episodes, but watching this current series has been very difficult and I have been tempted to switch off during every episode so far except for the one based in the submarine.

I really enjoyed it & I think it was because, apart from a good story, humour & great pace there was minimal "Who is Clara?" nonsense, which is boring me now. For the Doctor to sort of shrug off Jenny's questions as "it doesn't matter at the moment" was a welcome change; I wish he'd adopt that attitude more often. He sees so many weird & wonderful things on his travels & just accepts them, it bugs me that he obsesses over Clara when her mystery doesn't actually seem very pertinent to anything he is currently trying to solve.

i loved it
i've not rated gatis episodes in previous seasons but looking back i think in the past he's attempted to write his version of a "normal " dr who story where as this was full on deranged gothic madness and loving tributes to his personal passions .
I'll confess that the presence of diana rigg in anything always helps in my eyes but she was given a part worthy of her talents ( in comparison with say game of thrones where it was only this week where she was finally given a scene worth anything)
leaving aside the end bit in the 20th century the only opportunity i felt was missed is that no one got to say "frying tonight" as the victims went in the vat
