Hello,

My mum has a Sony Viao laptop which we bought last autumn, and it was working fine. However, a couple of months ago, she did a refresh to the laptop because after a Windows update, it just wouldn't load up Windows anymore. Since then, the Metro tile have stopped working, including the Store, Internet etc. When we click on them, the screen will show the title oage for that tile, then goes back to the start menu. The desktop tile does work luckily!

Having done some research, it seemed we had to uninstall the pre-installed McAfee parental control program, but having uninstalled it, this hasn't worked either.

Any ideas?

Where did you buy it from?
Is it still under warranty?

Also youre post is a bit

What was the refresh she did a few months ago?
Also why wait a few months before asking advice on how to get it working?

It was from Currys, and isn't under warranty. I don't live at home so I can only look at it when I go back, which has been a few months. It was the standard Windows 8 refresh (hadn't heard of it before).

It should be covered by guarantee
" If the fault with your product occurs within its guarantee period (normally 12 months from delivery) we will offer you a prompt repair service*. In all cases we reserve the right to inspect the product and verify the fault."

You should take it back to them, does seem to have a lot of issues.

Windows has two options - refresh and reset.

Refresh lets you reinstall windows but lets you keep your files and your metro apps so is the one, one normally uses - effective for stopping bit rot on the desktop.

In this case, I would recommend trying to do a full windows reset before taking it back. This will completely reset Windows however so you need to transfer her personal files off the computer first or she will lose them.

What does seem interesting from this post is that your mother is someone who does use metro?
