It seems our bodies can't identify the chemicals in margarine and so it ends up undigested.

I am now back on a lovely butter.

I thought this was common knowledge anyway? Marge is chemical crap. Butter in moderation is fine as with everything unprocessed.

So did I. But obviously it isn't.
Now that the daily mail has said it more people will start to see the light.

You can't beat full-fat butter from grass-fed cows. I switched from olive oil spreads a year or so ago.

Give me Beurre Echire, President or Lurpak any day of the week. I tried St Ivel Gold once for about a year but it was just no good.

It's about time this got out into the mainstream.

Margarine should have been banned years ago, along with Flora and its self-satisfied adverts. They are not fit for human consumption.

You know that margarine is grey before they add the yellow colouring?

Does anyone actually notice a difference between dear brand butters like Lurpak & the stores own brand value butter? I don't at all.

MARG is FULL of TRANS FATS.

Trans Fats are very toxic to the body and it's been found through scientific studies, the highest cause of trans fats are not doughnuts or junk food but actually cheap margerine.

Grim. Someone on these forums recently said that if you leave an open tub of margarine out in the garden, wildlife and insects won't touch it. I don't know whether that's true or not, but I'm inclined to believe it!

What about people who have dairy allergies and cannot eat butter? What would they do if 'spreads' were banned?

Everyone should download the 50 Shocking Facts about Diet and Exercise program that Channel 5 aired. You can get it from Piratebay using one of the many thousands proxies. Trans Fats made the list and it was all about margarine.

Do you better sources than an editorial in the Daily Mail as their science reporting isn't known for it's accuracy or honesty?

Been saying this all along that butter is fine and to steer clear of margarine which is full of unpronounceable chemicals
Well since chemicals (unpronounceable or otherwise) are in everything (including butter), that's a pretty meaningless statement.

You know that margarine is grey before they add the yellow colouring?
Who cares? That's an irrelevant reason not to eat it.

Well, no you shouldn't. The programme has about as much scientific rigour as you'd expect from a programme on Channel 5.

I suggest they do without. I could do without butter easily if I had to.

I'll stick with bertolli olive spread and Flora rather than eat the yellow blocks of saturated fat

Subtext.. The Mail wants us all to have heart attacks.

I'll stick with Vitalite thanks Daily Mail

A It's cheaper than butter

B It spreads straight from the fridge.

C People with a lot more qualifications than the Daily Fail say it's healthier to eat

D It tastes good.

It's not the particular reason I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole.

But, I have nothing better to do than sit here and post irrelevant but startling facts about chemically made spreads.

What type of butter do you prefer? Sweet cream for me. I don't like that foreign cultured stuff like Lurpak. And no I am not a UKIP supporter.

I don't eat butter or margerine on toast because I think it's just a waste of calories, rather just have marmite. I absolutely agree with your point, why would someone knowingly want to put something toxic inside their bodies?

Ignorance is bliss and some people will happily continue to cling to their old behaviours and believe what they want to believe.
