Go Digital with Sony LBT-LX9AV?

I have a venerable Sony LBT-LX9AV (cd player, tuner, cassette, turntable) which I feel very emotionally attached to.

It's a long time since I played a cd, (even longer since I played a cassette!) and currently I have a lead connecting my desktop to the system so I can play MP3s through it, which sounds great because the speakers are fantastic.

I'd now like to ditch the desktop and ideally the working part of the system, but retain the speakers to play MP3s through.

What do I need to do that?
Obviously some sort of amp, and something to store and play MP3s on - is there anything that would do both?

A decent visual display would be great as with upwards of 25,000 songs, finding the one I really need to hear NOW isn't always easy.

How big is your wallet?

This is what I use for music playing.

Not cheap but would do what you want. It has a built in amplifier so can drive speakers directly or you can plug it into a separate audio system.

Although primarily designed for CD ripping you can import mp3 files onto it. If you get them into the database on the beast then you can list via, artist, album, track, genre and search within those groupings. And if you want to you can search for album art (or any image you like) to associate with the songs which is displayed as the songs play.

You can manage the device from a computer using it's built in web interface. Which makes it easy to edit song details and create playlists as required. You can even control playback from the web interface.

If 1TB isn't big enough there is a 2TB version and if that is still not enough it has two USB ports you can hang extra storage off and if you plug it into your router it can stream audio from network storage devices (and stream internet radio as well).

Wow that looks just perfect, but I'd have to think long and hard before parting with that much!
