Why didn't they just join a dating site?

I am surprised the neighbours didn't notice anything. Surely these men had to buy stuff for these women like clothes tampons etc. So wouldn't someone have wondered why 3 men living alone were buying female products?

For.****s.sake

do you really think men buying women's clothes and tampons would arouse suspicion? seriously? how much does anyone know about their neighbours shopping habits?

if this is anything like previous cases, those girls because that's all 2 of them were when they were kidnapped, would have been kept naked, probably tied up and locked in windowless room where they would have been repeatedly raped, sodomised and assaulted

they have endured forced pregnancy and probably given birth without pain relief or any support other than the other women imprisoned with them. 10 years of their lives have been robbed form them in the most horrific way

and yes, this kind of case does give me a catastrophic sense of humour failure

Why would the neighbours notice that? How many people know what their neighbours buy?

What a tragic story made all the more fascinating by the amazing insights here ^.

I hope these girls / women are able to successfully rebuild their lives over time. Their captors no doubt will face a similar fate for a more prolonged period of time.

Unfathomable, well for me anyway, not so much for others ^.

Well the man who helped rescue them didn't say they were naked and I am sure he would have noticed. I do know what some of my neighbours buy because I am dead nosy btw

A bit like the Jaycee Dugard case.
That's what immediately springs to my mind too.

It's a harrowing case. There are videos on YouTube and she has done interviews. Dugard's captor had some menacing Rasputin eyes.

What on earth is happening to DS? How has this story managed to end up with yet more arguing about religion and anti-US stuff?
Ah well, at least nobody's turned it into a wanking thread. We can be thankful for small mercies.

Weird story- imagine being held captive for that long. Apart from the trauma of the captivity itself, how mindblowing must it be to finally get back to freedom? There are some horrible bastards out there right enough.

Sky news reporting 3 women and 4 children rescued and man arrested.
They are reporting 3 women and 1 child, not 4 children

Imagine how their families must be feeling?

The BBC News website reported that the mother of one of the girls died a few years ago. How absolutely tragic that she'll never know that her daughter has been found alive and how awfully sad for the daughter to discover that her mother is no longer around. All those lost years.

Jeez, this thread is nothing to do with the existence of a God or otherwise. Why try to turn it into the usual DS anti-religion circle wank? There is always at least one thread (and usually more) on the front page of General Discussion at any given time for that sort of thing.

Jeez, indeed.
If people find it relevant or can make it relevant, that's up to them. Why do you two keep thinking you can tell people when and how they should discuss something?

You can just ignore those comments and reply to the posts you think are relevant, surely, rather than trying to control what others think is relevant or what they want to say.

When someone has done something 'wicked', some people do wonder about God, whether or not you find it irritating.

At the risk of sounding churlish, so could you. Just a thought.

Just been listening to an interview with one of the neighbours. One of the guys (the other two weren't mentioned) came across as a totally regular sort, with no apparent odd habits.

It's just amazing how things such as this, are kept so well hidden for so long.

The women have been re-united with their families, although unfortunately, Amanda Berry's Mum is dead ~ died from heart failure 3 years after Amanda went missing. All she has left is her sister.

t must give hope to other parents with missing children.

Strange they are saying they don't know who the mother of the young child is. presumably not one of the 3 young women then

Can you imagine being in those women's situations

Like Christopher Hitchens said, how can some people still believe in a 'god' after knowing such horrors.
I'm certain Hitchens has a very different opinion now.

I buy stuff for my wife all the time - I'm pretty sure nobody has yet suspected me of having a homemade dungeon in my house.

The guy who called 911 is quite a character!

"Deeeead giveaway!!!"

The 911 call is quite something, too (warning- contains swearing).

rescuer: [Shouting] "You need an ambulance...or what?"
rescuer: [waits for response]
rescuer: "She needs everythings, she in a panic bro, says she's been kidnapped so you know, put yourself in her shoes."

He's ace.

With the emergence of Internet shopping over the last decade they wouldn't have had to buy things at their local shop.

I suspect having kidnapped and held them against their will for 10 years, buying them female products wouldn't be high on their agenda.

Only a matter of time

Wouldn't it be wonderful if they could one day find out what makes people behave in this way and go on to find a way to switch it to "off".

I read about this case on another forum. Amanda's mother was told by a 'psychic' that her daughter was dead.,I hope that woman feels ashamed now.

At least the other family members have been reunited and can look forward to the future.
Hopefully the perpetrators receive the maximum sentence.

Yes, although to be frank, stoatie, I do think people should concentrate on stating their own opinions/observations on the thread topic, at least initially, in any given thread.

Not blaming you here, as you have.

If a poster's comments are going to get shot down in flames, at least supply your opinion, so they get an opportunity to counter attack yours in turn, rather than simply having to defend their own.
