Every expense spared, I see.

Compared to the other versions around the world, the Battles really show how much the BBC is half-arsing their production of this show. Give it to a commercial channel who have some money to spend on it!

Hell, even Holland managed to get Lenny Kravitz and Duffy!

They get such awful advisors, they might as well not even bother

I wouldn't exactly be bouncing off the walls with excitement

I thought they'd try up the advisors from last year. Cerys & Ana aren't exactly setting the world alight are they? I'm happy to see Dido though, i love her. I just hope Danny actually knows her considering he had Paloma last year who he didn't even really know

She's still more relevant than Claude, Dante & Cerys!

America got Ne-Yo, Kelly Clarkson, Sheryl Crow, Billie-Jo Armstrong etc.

It just seems the BBC are reluctant to spend anything on it!

True. And The Voice US have had quite big names as well going by it's history - Lionel Richie, Mary J. Blige, Alannis Morrisette

I always feel like the UK version always sells short. I'd be quite surprised anybody would be aware of Claude or Dante, or with the younger generation, many will not be aware of Cerys either.

The trouble is the BBC.

Because they are publically owned, they have a very limited budget compared to commercial channels. This is also why a fundamental aspect of the voting (iTunes sales), which has produced some very interesting results in Holland, Australia and the US, can't be implemented in the UK.

They are bound up with so much red-tape it makes translating the version successfully very difficult.

Just said this in the other thread so I'll say it again here

Last year the advisors pretty pointless --- didn't paloma faith throw a wobbly or something and virtually get cut out of the edit altogether

The program should be about the contestants and their mentors and everyone else is just window dressing

The BBC get hammered for spending on the show anyway so why spend more than the have to. I wouldn't bother with advisors at all

AWFUL choices

Not impressed at all.

Come ON!

Jessie J could have got Tinie Tempah on for free even the flop Chipmunk would have done it they're entertaining

Will could have got Fergie in a heartbeat

Danny - come on! Ed sheeran, someone anyone

Tom Jones - living legend anyone would come for him

BBC are so CHEAP

People expect to have world famous artists advising the singers when it would cost a fortune to book them and then others would complain about the cost. Anyway just because someone is a big name doesn't necessarily make them a good mentor.

I think the vocal coaches like Yvie Burnett and the rest of the team they have are more important than the advisors. They aren't seen much on screen (apart from Dante), so we don't know how much input they have. Anyway, we'll soon see the results on Saturday.

But the BBC can't win when it comes to things like this. You complain that they're not spending much money on advisors, yet if they did other people would complain they had spent that money.

Given that the guest mentors are featured a lot less on the UK version, I can see why they haven't gone for bigger names.

Suspect the budget has been largely blown on the panel, well Tom and maybe Will anyway.

I'd have like to see Fergie with Will, or maybe Apl.

Perhaps Will particularly wanted Dante as he had him last year. and they work well together. If I remember right, I think last year Will was really busy with a lot of things going on and Dante was able to be there if Will was away.

Agree Maggie, think Will trusts Dante, and their linkup seems the most authentic of the four, even though Tom has worked with Cerys before on this, but still would be interested to see Fergie involved somehow

Yeah, pity he can't have both.

I think Tom/Cerys is a good combination - she should have a lot of current musical knowledge with her job as a DJ.

The ones I'm wondering about are Danny and Dido, as some of my favourites are in Danny's team so I hope she does a good job. At least she'll be better than Paloma last year.

Claude Kelly is one of the most successful song writers in the business at the moment and one of Jessie J's best friend's since she was like 18-19. Why not have him on? It's great to have someone the coach actually has a personal relationship with and has written for people like Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Kim Burrell, Tony Braxton, Christina Aguilera, and TONS more. He graduated from Berklee Music College, nominated for four Grammys, written numerous number one hits, and the list goes on. Why would you want Chip or Tinie? They've nly own her for a few years. She and Claude have been collaborators(in the true sense of the word) from the very first song she gave away. He and Exit1200(one of the best engineers in the business. responsible for Usher's 'Climax', check out his massive discography) are in London right at this moment working in the studio with her for her alum and the only person she has consistently worked with for the last year and few months is Claude. Claude is to Jessie what Dr. Dre is to Snoop or Timbaland was to Aaliyah. He's the perfect pick for guest mentor.

Also, Jessie is closer to Ed Sheeran than Danny is, so that pair up wouldn't have made sense.

Having a big name shouldn't be the goal. Having a great mentor should be put first and what better to start with someone the coaches already feel comfortable with and know their style?

I love music I know his arsenal and what he has been/is capable of I just feel that better known people would've appealed to OTHER viewers, viewers who want to see faces they are aware of from my standpoint yes people from behind the scenes are great but in some circumstances I feel better known (publically) would've helped ratings but I get your argument

I get both sides, but sometimes it can't always be about ratings. They are their to do a job and help the contestants be the best they can be. Someone like Claude and Dante can get that done and they also have great relationships with their fellow coach. Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj are big names, but are proving to be mediocre judges. Keith Urban isn't as big, but he's the best judge on the panel in terms of advice.

Jessie is very much all about technique, whereas Claude is about emotion. The two together will greatly benefit the contestants. Having someone like Ed Sheeran on, who says that he doesn't really have any technique secrets he just "gets on with it" isn't as helpful. No one can learn anything from that.

We're into Season 2 and the coaches are still at the feel comfortable with unknown to public music industry stage!

Just face it the BBC are bloody cheap and the sooner Endemol end their contract with them the better (and get either Sky or Channel4 on board)!

Couldn't disagree more. With Channel 4 it would be tacky and with Sky it would mean a lot of people wouldn't be able to watch. John de Mol would never agree to that. He likes the BBC and that's why he sold it to them.

Maybe I'm reading it wrong, but I can't understand what you said at all in the first sentence. Not sure if it's missing a comma or maybe I'm just being dumb right now. I've reread it about three times and still can't decipher what you were trying to say.

Dido sounds like the perfect and obvious choice to me even as a non-fan (apart from White Flag, I love White Flag). The women has sold 40m+ albums for goodness sake, and has had enormous global success these contestants (and even a couple of the coaches) can only dream of. I know who's experience and opinion I would vaule more over her and the likes of Ed Sheeran.
