Im not getting Fifa 14 out of principle - I started to play Fifa 13 recently again and am so disappointed to see many bugs STILL NOT solved many months after it being released for example when playing Xbox live drop in game:

1. When game starts it shows my player within a bigger player with his head in the bigger players neck. Otherwise it shows an empty pitch requiring game restart!

2. When play drop in game often find myself playing ANY (no one else will or I'm on my own). The game defaults to some random crap formation with my player naturally out of his default position e.g. CAM is on wing - great!

3. If I try to adjust the formation to put my player in a better formation then the game crashes and freezes every time when I'm the only one on my team unless at half time!

4. When I play most goals are scored on rebound from goalie save or off post - seems impossible to get any player on my team to score directly. Often true for other team too - 4 goals out of 4 in last game

5. Then we have the way word passing, other (game controlled) players i want to pass to either running off side or not running at all and randomly delayed tackles so give away free kicks.

I'll stop there

Rant over

Martin 😃

Football games are crap these days. FIFA and PES both suck. Mainly because they've overcomplicated the animations. Now, to do something as simple as turn around and run in a different direction, the player has to go through 8 different animations. All in the name of supposed "realism". Plus I hate the annoying "radar" screen they insist on shoving on the screen. I get my sporting fix from NHL and Top Spin (assuming 2K ever release another one).

I have persevered with PES for the past few years.

Ignoring the flaws its a decent game to bang in and have a quick session.

The lack of licenses made me want to buy a Fifa game again.
Choices I had were FIFA 12 for 5 or 13 for 20+ 2nd hand.

Plumped for 12 for a fiver. Going off the first post, wise choice by me. ?
It has the thrill of getting a lower division team up the leagues, but kicking the ball about is like a balloon in treacle and the shooting is also better on PES.

So hopefully the next PES will be slicker with a few more licenses.

I prefer PES to be honest although its not without its problems. The licences don't bother me since I prefer the continental clubs to English football. FIFA just has too many bugs and annoying issues for me and I'm not bothered about yearly updates or online either.

The object is the same, they all play differently.
I still think Sensible World of Soccer is the best. Played it again recently after years of ball glued to foot ones and was useless.

I will get it but Fifa 13 is really starting to annoy me.

Pretty much every football simulation since (and including) pro evo 5 has had severe scripting but the scripting in this one is just a joke. The 'scripting' is called 'momentum' and EA USED to admit it exists. Sometimes the game just wants you to lose for long periods. Recently in seasons I went on something like a 20 match winning record with Galatasaray. Basically every time I passed to Drogba the ball just flew into the net. I was a point off reaching division 1 then suddenly I went through a huge phase of being unable to pass the ball and I ended up in division 4. Pro Evo 5 had very, very obvious scripting. If you were 1-0 down it generally became much, much easier to score. The reason Konami did this is because pro evo 4 had very little scripting and it meant that good players like me would regularly win by cricket scores and put people off the game. Fifa, however, takes scripting to a whole new level and seems to deliberately make you stronger or weaker for entire seasons of matches.

Also, why did they stop including form in online mode? When the game has been out for more than 6 months, things start to get boring and including forms completely changes the game.

I've found recently I get disconnected quite a bit online. Also, if other people quit, it somehow seems to sometimes kill my entire network connection? EG iphone, laptop etc lose connection and I need to reboot the router. Yet I still get the win. No other games have any networking problems.

I have to say that I do still love playing Fifa. I was a pes addict right from ISS all the way to pes 2008 but pes 2008 was the downfall and EA finally released a good game in Fifa 09. Has Fifa improved much since 09 though? I don't think so. It's solid but there's still something 'rough' about the fifa gameplay to me, that didn't exist in the old pes games. To me sometimes fifa feels like a game of rock, paper, scissors, and you never quite fully feel in control like you did in pes. The gameplay is still slightly iffy. But fifa is still the best football game (basically the only one) and I still play it all the time. A lot of what happens in fifa is certainly pre-determined though

Pretty much like saying Doom is the same as Battlefield 3.

I remember Actua Soccer quite clearly, had Barry Davies on commentary and strange camera angles.

Anyone remember that Adidas football game that came out about the same time? Crikey, this all reminds me of primary school

PS - I think this was it http://uk.ign.com/games/adidas-power-soccer/ps-715

Was pretty crap if I remember correctly, I only rented it.

I was completely off buying FIFA 14, after the mess that was 13. Sold my copy and bought PES2013 instead but I just cant get going with it. Ive tried for a couple of weeks now, and I'm just not enjoying it at all. Even considering swapping back to FIFA 13 for my football fix

Im resigned to the fact if I want a new football game come Sept/Oct it'll have to be FIFA14

There was one edition of PES on the PS3 that was awful. Glitchy scrolling ruined it. I thought it was 2009 but maybe it was 2008.
One of the worst games I've ever played on anything, I'm a big fan of PES as well. Even the recent ones.

NHL suffers from same EA scripting issues fifa does though, it determines if you will concede or not

never noticed that free pucks keep bobbling to opposition? that you miss easy empty netters? that opposition score with fluke goals so regulary?

damn i dislike EA..prob get nhl 14 though as no competion on market

football wise PES is the best

I got Fifa 12 and it was pretty enjoyable, but for my football fix I think I'll stick with Football Manager. Latest edition was a bit of a disappointment, but I do like the depth of management.

I will no doubt get 14, Fifa is the best of a bad bunch. Well, of two.

Kick Off 2 was the best old school game. Then ISS when it came to the PS1. Oh, and Olympic Soccer, with Alan Green commentary.

Old thread I know just to say I didn't buy Fifa 14 but hot it free with xbox day one. Graphically it's impressive but it's the same old story - predictable & loads of bugs:

1. Games still scripted - played a game Saturday and unbelievable as ever, against the play and what I deserved I went 2-0 up in the first half with the other player sounding so frustrated - over kinect I said don't worry mate you'll win 4-2 (really hope he heard me!). then when I hit the cross bar on about 50+ mins that confirmed it - he then scored 4 goals easily and completely deservedly then when 1 on 1 ...... You've guessed, he hit the woodwork lol - so I was right. Sooooo frustrating that I can no longer message recent players to say well done mate to stick with the game and not quit to get the win you completely deserved!

2. Clicking through options of tournaments the game awarded me a 100g achievement for winning a cup I never played a game in?!!!

3. The game still asks me the same stupid questions every time I play it - surely can't it remember I know which kinect setting I need and know about the saving. Surely can't it take me straight to main menu after playing it a couple of times without extra button presses?!!

4. Even worse, tonight I thought I'd play a quick game but Fifa kept crashing or returning to main menu so after 5 attempts I gave up

Sorry mate but that's exactly how I felt, sorry if my post wasn't clear, he deserved to win.

Lol no neither of us was Barcelona - to be honest tho the game decides if it will let you score, a player of mine can miss a tap in from 6 yards one match (in a match I will never win despite having 10+ shots on target) then get a hat trick in the next - that's what I mean by scripted lol!

you cant score all your chances or the game would be too easy

Well no never expect to score every shot lol - but in one game 2 goals from 4 shots and another two goals from 20 and missing the goal from 6 yards with an open goal

I'm not a good player for sure but some games seem to be in my favour and others clearly go against me lol.
