Is anyone else watching this, this is the first year I'm watching having a relative with 'the big C' who won't be here for much longer. It's really pulling on my heart strings watching cathy prepare for her death,.

Just thought this show deserves a lot of respect so I started this thread

I've watched the entire series. Have to say series 4, particularly the ending was very disappointing.

Do you mean Season 3? Season 4 is being shown at the moment US pace 4 x 1hr episodes.

I can't find season 3 anywhere online and I don't think it's being shown on telly here, how did you watch it?

AFAIK they haven't shown Season 3 in the UK yet either. I don't know what's taking them so long.

Yes I'm glad they've done 4 hour long episodes rather than 8 half hour ones.

The ending of the last episode was very good.

It is getting very sad and by the looks of it, it's gonna get sadder. I hope as an audience we get to the acceptance stage and accept the end as with life.

As I suspected, a sad ending, but I wasn't too keen on the 'afterlife' stuff.

They should have left that unanswered and that the 'ghosts' she had seen were in her head.

Also not so sure about the bit where she says 'nice flowers'.

I didn't have a problem with the whole afterlife thing. The flowers scene was deceptive. It certainly fooled me, but it still added to the impact of that setup. JMO

This series has been so good. These final four episodes were excellent. Seeing the main character peacefully go personally touched me. I suppose experiencing my family being touched by cancer more than once (hell, more than I can count) and dealing with the day-to-day difficulties with a sick person and the bureaucracy that often comes up in these situations added some weight to how I felt as I watched the series especially the finale.

Congratulations to the writers and actors for a job well done.

The big C this season was quite magnificent, an intelligent comic drama that contained such pathos. Darlene Hunt the writer excelled along with all the cast especially Laura Linney whose performance was a powerhouse, tour-de-force, it should pick up all the acting awards later this year.

Sad that series wasn't shown on a mainstream channel at peak time in the UK, so many people would find inspiration from it, however... Lucky us.

I agree, it should have been a big success over here. I read an interview with Laura Linney recently and she spoke about when she was in London, she got a taxi and the driver broke down and told her how he and his wife (who has cancer) loved the show and watched it together and kind of communicated through it.

I've just watched all 4 final episodes and have spent the afternoon either laughing or crying my eyes out. They always got the balance so dead on there. Beautiful performances by all involved, particularly Laura Linney who has been amazing to watch, and the actor who played her son. Gonna miss it though!
