Ruby turns 1 this month, she is a rottie cross, intact and as typical with a young dog needs alot of exercise.
She has developed a rather annoying habit when we are out, and I am wondering if anyone has any ideas on how to stop this please.
While we are out and is off the lead she start inhibits a certain behaviour, although she does do it when on lead too.
She will start running around me in circles gathering speed, and today she actually ran at me twice and head butted me!
I have tried to distract her when she does it, and most of the time it works, just today it didn't.
She is build like a staff, short and sturdy and has a hard head! I was sitting on the grass at the time and she almost floored me the first time, she took me by surprise.

She is full of beans as you would expect and I have no problems taking her for long walks. This behaviour occurred after 45 mins ish walking/running around as we was on her way home.

She is 25lbs, and is fed tinned pedigree chum with mixer. 1 tin, and one small handful of the mixer spread over two meals. I don't think its the food as she's been on this for months.
Nothing has changed at home so its not that. I just don't know what to think. I suspect maybe she needs to be spayed, but we have one more month before we can do that.

Sounds like she's herding you, and is pretty excitable.

You need to do some training on a stop command, so when she's not all hyper, get her to sprun to you and sit as she reaches your feet, praise her every time (and treat her), then when shes out you might be able to stop her! she's also I adolescence so will be extra bouncy. I'd recommend spaying as this does calm them.

That makes sense actually, I will certainly give it a try.

Cairn terrier -well we was told that.She resembles neither really

Pedigree isn't the best food tbh, maybe look at Fishmongers, Applaws or Wainwrights tray (all available at most P@H).

You're not alone, my older dog, staffy mix, ran at my knees once, fell flat on my face and fractured my front teeth lol (well I can laugh now).

As said, it's sounds as if she is getting a bit too excited, could you maybe spend time each walk just doing a bit of calm, quiet training?

You could try to teach a 'watch me' cue, rewarding her for her focusing on you

When we first got her we went through a what felt like all the food on offer.
From raw to even dried.
The pedigree was all should would and still does eat.Well apart from the webbox stuff in tubes, but we sparingly give her that as she can be hyper after it. For a dog that loves only certain types of treats, she is unusual. She won't eat tripe flavoured food/treats at all, nor those chews made up of little pieces. Most dogs are gannits, and she can be when it comes to what she likes. Just everything else she won't eat.
So she gets the chum, I know that bowl will be emptied.
