I have just watched Smokey and the Bandt for the first time in many, many years, but Jackie Gleason still cracks me up as the Sheriff.

He had some great lines and delivered them superbly

Junior "My hat blew off!"

Sheriff "I hope your goddamn head was in it"

I've read that a majority of Jackie Gleason's lines in the film were improvised. Not surprising considering his comedic background. "Smokey and the Bandit" is still a fun movie to watch - to me anyway. But I'm not a fan of any of its sequels.

Gleason has some great lines in Smokey and the Bandit II

"Look at that Daddy!"
"Huh, that must be one of those new Japanese sports cars. Howdy"
"SWAMP FEVER!"
"Huh?"
"SWAMP FEVER!"
"Swamp Fever? Damned if I know where it is, I'm not from round here myself"
"If I wasn't in hot pursuit I'd have that bum and his Suki Yuki bicycle in the clink! For driving on the wrong side of the road"

"He's like all the other jocks. Big, but dumb as a stump!"

"I'm gonna call my brother Reggie, and I'm gonna call my brother Gaylord. Get me Quebec, Canada on the phone"
"Canada?"
"Yeah, s'up North, s'up North"

"Who was that Daddy?"
"I dunno, but the circus must be in town"

Has anyone seen the 3rd "Smokey.." film, and wants to admit it?

The original cut had Jackie Gleason playing both parts, but preview audiences hated it and found it confusing so it was recut with Jerry Reed as the Bandit, and a cameo from Burt Reynolds at the end.

Dreadful film, but would like to have seen the original version just to see how Jackie Gleason carried it off.
