Freeview recorders
I've been toying with ditching Sky and investing in a Freeview recorder. Past experience tels me that DVD recorders don't last very long but can anyone recommend a decent Freeview HD recorder? Price isn't a problem but I'd like twin tuners and USB playback (.avi, .mkv, etc.) if possible. PURE mahcines have impressive specs but are they reliable?

Looks impressive. Oddly enough it was the first one that caught my eye when I was browsing earlier today. Ta.

You can do a whole lot worse than the Fox-T2, but not many beat it. If you have the ability to hook it up to your broadband router then it will do some internet streaming (though the TV Portal as Humax calls it is a bit "work in progress" it seems at the minute) and also streaming from any network storage device you may have.
I have my Fox-T2 hooked up to my router and it sees and plays media files I've got on my NAS drive. Might be an alternative to using USB drives? |

Another vote for Humax HDR FOX T2. I ditched sky some years ago and have used Humax PVRs since. Never looked back. Better than Sky+. There is also a thriving community and they have produced software hacks to make the machine even more usable.
Oh and you won't miss any of the Sky channels once you are weaned off them......

I like a faff as much as anybody but I'm too scared of messing things up. Thanks anyway.
At the risk of sounding ignorant: what's the difference between HD and HDR as it relates to recorders? |

They do a receiver only (HD) and the recorder (HDR).

They look like they've dropped the HD Fox T2 from the current line up.http://www.humaxdigital.com/uk/products/ |

![]() Never occurred to me that anyone would buy a receiver that didn't record. Clearly, I've had Sky+ so long I've become institutionalised. |

All of my Panasonic DVD/HDD Freeview recorders are still recording to DVD fine about 7 years after I got them.

OP what made you decided on going for a Freeview recorder rather than a Freesat recorder?

Your local residential home will have plenty of people who have a set top box and analogue tuner only Telly or an idTV but no recorder in their room.

We should have a poll - Panasonic vs Humax! I am very happy with the former but buying a Humax is somethingI know I am going to do!

One thing that puzzles me with the Panasonics is the inability to record straight to disc rather than to disc via the hard drive. An oddity.
