I think they were given a set amount of Beer to start with, so the girls wasted 2 kegs to start with, giving them less to sell. I turned to my wife at the end (seem to be turning to my wife a lot while watching the Apprentice) and said "how were both teams manufacturing costs basically the same, when the girls wasted 2 barrels"?

The costs should have been similar, as both teams produced similar volumes - it's just that two kegs' worth of Evolve's volume went to waste and could not be sold. This scuppered their retail sales potential - mind you, with the locations they chose they wouldn't have shifted that volume anyway.

Thats why I think they were given a set amount of kegs (6 for example), because if you ruined 2 surely business sense would say we'd better make another 2 or we won't have enough to sell!

Possibly. But equally if they'd made another 2 kegs they would have incurred the cost of those extra kegs, so their costs would have risen accordingly.
But it is confusing, because I don't think it was mentioned that they had less beer to sell?, I just wondered how the costs were the same when they wasted 2 kegs. |

Yes I agree, so they must of had a set amount of kegs to use, or their manufacturing costs would of been higher.
But it is confusing, because I don't think it was mentioned that they had less beer to sell?, I just wondered how the costs were the same when they wasted 2 kegs. There's a lot of information and rules relating to tasks that we never get to see. Presumably the producers decide that it's not worth explaining things fully as it would be a bit confusing and would detract from the 'action'. It would also reveal how much the tasks are controlled, with the teams' ability to make their own decisions limited. For instance, I'm willing to bet that one (if not both) teams realised that there was much more profit to be made by ignoring trade sales and focussing on retail, but the task rules dictated they had to take X kegs and make Y sales appointments (and we know the specialist pub was set up for them, because both teams went there). Equally on the retail side, the teams were clearly only allowed to set up at certain locations that had been pre-cleared. Kurt's team couldn't have just pitched up at the St Albans beer festival on spec - the production team would have had to book some space to use in advance. Same with the other festivals. How Tim came to choose that wine bar is beyond me, but I suspect even that was on their given list of options. |
