Humax 9300T PVR question

Hello all

I have this device, which I think of as a twin-tuner device, but is it?

A couple of days ago I was watching a pre-recorded programme, from 8.45pm, with it set to record on two channels from 9pm to 10pm. Channels were BBC1 and FIVE. I saw both pop-up messages on TV screen to notify that the recordings had started.

At 9.45pm when the pre-recorded programme had finished, I pressed stop, expecting the screen to revert to one or other of the channels being recorded. However the TV screen reverted to BBC News channel, the last channel selected on the device for live viewing, and the display on the PVR showed BBC NEWS.

Both the recordings continued to their completion about 10pm.

To achieve this must have required 3 tuners. Does this mean the PVR can be used to watch one channel while recording 2 others? I have never thought of trying this, because I could just as easily watch live TV using the TV
while the PVR records two channels.

Just curious really.

You can record 2 things whist watching a third channel as long as that channel is on the same mux that one of the tuners is using to record.
The ones you can't see are greyed out or you get a message if you move through the channels (can't remember which).

Well that is clever. As BBC1 was recording, and the last live channel selected was BBC News, that explains it.

I would never have guessed. Thanks for helping

The tuner is used to select the UHF channel the mux is transmitted on. It is the demodulator and various bits after that that select what actual program service you want to watch. Theoretically given enough electronic horsepower it would be possible to watch/record every single channel on a single mux with just one tuner.

Or with six tuners you could record/watch every single channel on DTT simultaneously!

A good site for any problems with Humax is this.
You get some very knowledgeable answers, quickly.

I've the same model. I've never fully read the instructions, I say "read" as they're not in book form, just a naffin' CD Rom.

One thing I found out myself, was that if you extend the length of recording time of series recordings by a few minutes, it then won't "series link" any other series. You can only "plan record" individual programmes.

Also if in your planned recordings, you've still some of series that have been completed (the planned recording dates will be previous to the current date), when you try to series link a new selection, it sometimes tells you you're trying to series link a programme with more than 25 episodes. But if you delete the defunct planned recordings, it's then OK.
Seems strange that.
