Has anybody preordered this or read previews and knows what to expect in terms of gameplay and graphics.Ive preordered it but can't really find any information online regarding it. Is it anything like Fallout?

Metro is a linear FPS game set in a radiation soaked, post apocolyptic Russia.

Played the first one. Wasn't a bad game but glad I didn't pay full price. Will wait again for Last Light to come down before I get it.

The publisher has been quite generous with the gameplay videos they've put online in the lead up to the game's release; you'll have a good grasp of what the game's all about after watching one of them.

Hardcore shooter, in terms of limited ammo etc. Like a linear version of stalker if you ever played that.

Linear is good, when done well. I like the setting of Metro so have high hopes, the developers gained a lot of exerience with the first game so you could only assume this one will be a pretty big improvement.

Stoked for this- the first one (like S.T.A.L.K.E.R., really, in that respect) was flawed but I loved it. Wonderfully grim and atmospheric. Linear's fine when you've got a good story to tell, and Metro 2033 did (the novel was pretty smart). Anyone know if Last Light is based on the sequel novel (which hasn't been translated into English yet? GRRR)

The first one was pretty good, graphically superb, pretty much next gen before next gen was even announced. Flawed though. I would also recommend the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games if you're looking for something like Fallout. Word of advice though, a lot of these games are poorly optimised, meaning that you'll need a pretty beefy rig to make the most out of these games.

Wasn't a huge fan of the first, but this does look interesting. Think i will wait till its cheaper before taking the plunge though.

reviews seem pretty divided on this. I usually ignore IGN and gamespot but they seem to have totally different opinions interestingly. IGN gave it 7 and Gamespot gave it a 9, which I found very surprising as GS are usually stupidly harsh. Now they are rating it up there with Skyrim, farcry 3 scores, cant imagine it ranks with those games? anyway these reviews are pretty pointless. the general view seems to be that its decent judging by some collective opinions. so looks like a definate purchase

TotalBiscuit said he thought it was better than Bioshock:Infinite and one of the best FPS he has ever played.

High praise.

Nothing really new a competent shooter but that's all. Putting it in the same class as Bioshock:Infinite which had a lot of new elements in it's gameplay is silly.

TB isnt exactly unbiased when it comes to his WTF is and gaming commentaries. He gets paid to play and stage tournaments by developers.

he had a few gripes with biocock so it doesnt surprise me he ranks metro higher personally. i find his reviews pretty solid, he backs stuff up with reason so its difficult to say he is cheerleading a game tbh.

According to a few reviews popping up, the game is tainted by some bad bugs, clipping, pop in etc. Not sure what system they were on, as that sounds like a common console issue, PC might get better results (I know it wont, I know it will be a hate fest of bad optimization and endless memory leaks, but LET ME DREAM!)

The first one didn't have many problems hard to see how they could screw up...

Got it on PC have had a couple of funny issues. Like my character standing outside a the train at the beginning while still riding along with it and having a drink while the cup was at the other side of the table raising and lowering by itself.

All this talk has made me really want to reinstall Stalker SOC and some mods. I'll wait for LL. I loved the first one and played it through twice then never touched it again and there are sooo many good games on my hard drive atm. Graphics look amazing though and I really want to support the devs, so no doubt I'll crumble at the first price drop!

I dont mind a few bugs personally, unless they are game breaking of course.

Going by metro 2033 I'm certain they got the environment/setting down to a tee. what I was hoping they improved on was the gun play. I found that a bit weak in 2033 personally. the weapons looked good but they had no feel or kick to them, they sounded like they were being fired from a distance and you never got the sense you were hitting anything. can anyone thats played Last Light confirm what the gun play is like?

Just bought it on Steam, and just waiting for it to finish downing now, as the patch has supposed to have brought AMDs performance up, and fixed a few bugs.

Will have to start and finish 2033 first though, before i get this one started.

Yeh did you play before the AMD patch? it was unplayable

I guess I'm one of the very few who thinks this is better then Infinite and FC3 as FPS go, I just love it such a atmospheric and stunning looking game with a great story.

No i didn't, the patch was already released before i bought it, so was applied straight away, only ran the benchmark to see how it runs/looks, as going to start and finish 2033 first before getting onto this one, and it doesn't run to bad.

Settings :-

Options: Resolution: 1920 x 1080; DirectX: DirectX 11; Quality: Very High; Texture filtering: AF 16X; Advanced PhysX: Disabled; Tesselation: Very High; Motion Blur: Normal; SSAA: OFF

Results:

Average Framerate: 50.33
Max. Framerate: 99.67
Min. Framerate: 8.62
