just but chance i see the people and the dog that attacked mine, so i followed them home...as at the time they just walked off and just shrugged it off
the vet bill came to nearly £1000 as it was on a Sunday out of hours.
dog is insured but due to his age i ended up nearly £300 out of pocket.
i want to give them the bill but my partner said let it go...
what would you do??

leave it be, no one`s going to stump up for a vet bill two years on and it will just do your head in.

Let it go. There's no way you can prove it was them so if you start pursuing it they might say your harassing them.

Sadly I have to agree with the other two, let it go. It would just cause more stress for you all.

I disagree. It's illegal to simply walk away from a dog attack. There are quite a few laws you can invoke (depending on the situation), but if they walked away, you should have called the Police at the time or as soon as you could after. That's easy to say in hindsight, though!

People who think it's acceptable to simply walk away after a dog attack need to be brought to justice. I would speak to the Police, you can still make a formal complaint today.

Or you can easily start Small Claims proceedings with a surprisingly small amount of effort!

Ultimately, if people allow others to get away with this kind of thing then it will continue. Apathy or washing your hands of it is never a positive solution.

Good luck

I think I would pursue it even 2 years on they need to understand they are responsible.

But how can you prove it after all this time? My own dog was attacked outside the local shop. I brought him home then took him straight to the vets. I then phoned the Police who came took a statement then went straight up to see the owner. He was told he had to keep the dog on a lead at all times and under control. If he failed in this the dog would be destroyed. A few weeks later this same dog again went to go for my dog, again it was off the lead. Again I phoned the police and said dog was sadly destroyed. I was devastated. It was NOT the poor dogs fault but the arse of an owner who had failed to train his dog properly. My dog has since passed on with old age. I can't see how it would be possible to do something after 2 years. Any witnesses at the time would surely have scant memory of the events of that day?

It would probably be their word against yours but I have faith most people are essentially honest so would be worth pursuing them as they may well own up.
