Yay! Apparently there has been some rule change about how things are certified in the US to take account of streaming and You Tube views, meaning in Oath's case it's put it over the new 500k sales equivalent threshold.
Surprising really it did do relatively well in sales terms, (bear in mind UK platinum status is 300k by way of comparison) given it never really took off in the charts really. Still it's not the chart position Epic will be focused on as much as the cash it earns so this is all to the good, even if she needs another hit fairly pronto from the new album later this year. Guest starring on Big Time Rush on US TV tonight too. |

Not convinced about the Youtube thing - one person can view several times racking up popularity that dosent exist surely - 10,000 views can be 1,000 different people or 10,000 different people. Cant see how it constitutes a sale - would you buy a I-Tunes sale 100 times - probably not. I would be interested to know what the physical CD & I-Tunes sales in that figure. |

Vevo views pay out at $ 0.007 per time. Doesn't matter whether it's one person viewing a million times or a million people once, still pays out. She's on a total of 270 million in total. Not sure about Oaths share in that but it's many millions. Seems likely streaming/views reclassification added just over 10 percent to its total then |

Perhaps I am just getting old - but I just feel that it makes sales comparisons with older records where this didnt apply a bit useless as well as chart positions. Still feel the Youtube thing is not a true judge of popularity as it can be manipulated too easily.

Must be very worrying for artists that do make good music.

What does Cher Lloyd actually do other than rap. She is unable ot sing a single note in tune. There are superb singers Like Laura Mvula and Lianne La Havas who have more talent in their little fingers, but dont get anywhere near the amoutn of attention that Miss Lloyd gets.

Its very depressing for all those artists who can actually sing. They must wonder why they bother if people like buying mediocrity.

Fair enough points. Music is subjective, and it would be dull if we all liked the same artists.
