The dog's lovely though, he's a black lab, don't think he's that old but he's getting a bit chunky.

I think maybe I'll offer to take him out for a walk when I get in from work, I should be able to do that most nights. Just don't want the pooch getting fat and sick, he's the old boy's best buddy Bit of exercise won't do me any harm either”

That's an excellent idea. I hope the old guy agrees to it. Yes, labs do need plenty of exercise - good luck

I know someone who has a golden retriever and she never stops. Every minute of the day is walkies time for her. Another friend has a labrador and he too wants to walk all the time.

IMO it is cruel to have a lab and not give it enough exercise. I'd love a dog but cant as I am at work all day and too tired to walk a dog in the evening. I tried to rehome a mongrel but the rescue place quite rightly told me I could only have a dog if my circumstances changed. So I ended rehoming a 6mth old kitten who is now 8.

Cant wait to go part time so that I can own a dog.

An hour a day's perfectly fine. It's all well and good if you've got sod all to do all day to take these dogs on these fantastic adventures, but in the real world with people working all day, or may have disabilities preventing such a lifestyle, it just may not be practical.

Labs are usually gentle in my experience. It proves that people can turn dogs into the worst pets by treating them so badly. I would have reported them.
