I do this too, to a certain extent. I never have gravy on a roast dinner. It's not that I dislike gravy, but it just joins everything together.
My 8 year old son won't have gravy either, I assume it's for the same reason. |

I used to insist on separate foodstuffs, but it doesn't bother me so much any more. Not sure why.
I still don't like gravy all over everything though, because I just don't like the taste of English gravy. |

I'd separate different curries with the rice at the start because I like to taste each one on their own (especially if I'm trying a new recipe). After that, it gradually melds together.
I'm not a sequential eater, but one of my kids is - she'll eat all her meat, then all her potatoes, then all her carrots, then all her broccoli, for example. That weirds me out. And some foods need to be mixed - haggis, tatties & neeps; mince & tatties; gravy & mash - actually gravy & pretty much anything. I now apologise to all those I've made feel ill |

I don't know why but people who spray their chips in ketchup really irk me. It's so so uncouth. Put it on the side and dip it in but not shower the whole plate in the stuff. It just looks so uncivilized.
I have a mate who's a southerner and they don't believe in sauces on chips down south. Try waking into a chippy and asking for gravy, curry sauce or mushy peas and they look at you like you've lost the plot. |

I think this slightly "autistic" thing about separation of sauces and the like is very common. I'm not that bad about it - certainly no problem with two curries mingling - but certain things I'm very, very particular about. Egg yolk can go nowhere near beans or tomatoes. Only ever eat ketchup with chips, and only a little. I know somebody who eats each component of a meal completely before moving onto the next, and in a clockwise direction. On the other hand, I have a friend who's a multi millionaire foodie who will smother stuff with mayo, ketchup, all the gloop he can. Makes me feel ill! |

I used to eat everything on the plate separately. Even for dessert I wouldn't pour the custard on, I would eat it on its own. I'm much better now, although I still have the habit of saving the best bit until last

I have a friend who has a son with Aspergers and she was told that her sons insistence on different food types not touching other food types on his plate was common to many people with Aspergers. Sometimes he has to have a row of separate small plates so that each food type can have its own plate.
