Another one that doesn't like my food touching other food. I actually don't like many sauces anyway, and I just hate tomato sauce! I don't mind gravy on my food though. Baked beans and spaghetti hoops I have in a separate bowl with my toast separate.

Creates more washing up...bugger that.

Chips and cheese/gravy/curry sauce is a standard after pub snack here.

Gravy on chips is a disgusting idea.

I live in the north now, and I've yet to find a chip shop that serves battered pineapple rings. I used to have them quite a lot in Northamptonshire.
mmmm chips & gravy is lovely

I can't stand sauce of any kind. Something about the consistency of it creeps me out, so every bit of food I have is dry and ''tasteless'' according to some For example, plain pasta with a separate bowl of grated cheese so I can wait for the pasta to cool a bit and thus stop the cheese from melting.

Ordering from takeaways/restaurants or trying to buy sandwiches is an absolute nightmare, since everything seems to be smothered in sauce (even if it doesn't say so on the label, and even if I specifically say ''without sauce, please.''

I tend to avoid restaurants since there's always that horrible moment where I look at a menu and realise that there isn't a single thing on the menu which I like aside from things on the kids menu

(There's only one exception to my fear of sauce, and that's those pasta shapes in tomato sauce you get in a tin. Y'know, the ones for kids in the shape of cartoon characters No idea why I can eat that, yet can't have a burger with tomato sauce on. -shrugs-)

Evening all,

I went out with my sister afew days ago for a curry and she ordered a korma and I ordered a pathia and we said we would share, now for me "sharing" foods especially currys or other "wet" foods is abit of a nightmare. I really hate sauces touching each other, beans can't touch ketchup, different curry sauces can't touch etc etc, if it does then that area of my plate is contaminated and won't eat that bit if food. I sound like a complete freak. Now me and my sister have eaten together since we were little and my little issue has got worse as I've got older, when we went out for a curry she did the exact same thing as me which is to put the rice in the middle as a shield and build up to the curry sauces until you have two separate areas of curry to eat. I was just wondering if there's anybody else who does this as bad as me? Like seriously I hate it when people suggest sharing curry dishes because the separating out really stresses me out. We probably sound mental but I found a friend who does similar.

Does anybody know why we might do this?
I'd suggest you and a few others on this thread spend a few minutes taking one of the many online Asperger tests . Some take just 2 minutes but there are some that take a lot longer .

An example of one is below .

I remember my Mum had a lot of friends round for an Indian takeaway years ago. Anyway, one of my Mum's ex friend's husband (they have had a falling out) interfered with the dishing up. He poured some source over my pilau rice and it was disgusting. It ruined my meal and made it clear on no uncertain terms. I said whoever ordered this sauce was a t**t and the husband of the other friend was never allowed to enter my Mum's kitchen again. They are all w***ers anyway and I can say that because my Mum does not talk to any of them.

Another thing I cannot stand in either having a takeaway or going to s restaurant is these set menus. It is a cheap way out and that makes you have to share each other's dishes.

Thinking about it, I keep it pretty separate. You are then in control of mixing the combination of tastes. It doesn't just turn into an amorphous mass where you can't distinguish the tastes.

I put gravy over my whole roast dinner though.

I have no idea why anyone who would do this.
Paranoia, OCD and not enough real things to worry about. I doubt this is a problem for those in less advantageous positions in life. It's a first world problem.

Wow, aren't you... intellectual.

Not liking sauces mixing isn't a symptom of Asperger's Syndrome. It's a food preference and, depending on how much it affects you, maybe OCD to some degree.

I just tend to place my food and sauces strategically on my plate. If you're having bangers, beans and chips, no point in putting ketchup next to the beans as you're using the ketchup for the bangers and chips. I certainly wouldn't go sofar as to arrange a 'shield' though. lol!

The only things I can't eat are puddings with any sauce or custard. Ice cream can't touch the pudding either.

Also I can't eat toast with more than one topping.

I am the normal and everyone else is twisted.

With toast I'll let the butter melt in then put jam, its taste delicious

Custard and cake or just custard on its own, is lovely.

I don't know why you do it.

However, I'd check the hygiene standards of where you go out to eat first, before worrying about sharing food with relatives or friends.

My niece has done did that all her life and she has grown up to become guess what? a cafeteria manager
When she was quite small nothing on the plate could touch the other food on the plate such as baked beans touching the chips or sausages. There were massive tantrums if they did.
She is 32 years old now and still eats toast with no butter on it nor dip a bread roll into her soup or dunk a biscuit in her tea.
We recently went to a family wedding with her and I noticed how she still likes her gravy in a separate place on her plate.

It wasn't meant as a diagnosis so there's really no need for un-wisecracks tbh.

Aspergers was just a suggested as a possibility especially when so many on here are clearly obsessed with posting on forums.

Incidentally , 10% of Aspergers also suffer from OCD

PS
Many on here aren't just talking about sauces either.

My sister does it and I admit I do find it a bit weird. A bit precious even. Personally I not only don't mind my food touching and mixing but find it quite enjoyable. When eating a full English, for example, I will try to get a bit of everything onto my fork. Same with a Sunday roast. In fact thinking about I realise that when I'm getting towards the end of any meal I always try to sort of ration it out so that the final mouthful isn't a single food on its own. In fact I don't like it when I finish one bit of food first because the I can't eat it with the others. Ha, maybe I'm as bad as the rest of you!
