Rhubarb

Every year I have loads of it grow down the allotment. It was there when I took on the plot.

The problem is I can't give it away. I love it my, wife doesn't, well not in its standard form of crumble anyway. My mum just boils it down with some water, sugar and some cinnamon and eats it with custard. I took her a load over last week which she distributed to my aunts etc. I went over the other day she still had lots left.

Going to pass some off to the in laws today I although I'm not sure they're too keen on it.

Has anyone got any exciting recipes away from the standard crumble?

Wish you lived near me as I'd take some off your hands, I love rhubarb

Rhubarb Wine

Rhubarb & Ginger Jam

Rhubarb & Vanilla Jam

Both jams I have had as part of Christmas hampers and both are delicious. They seem quite luxurious at that time of year too.

Quite early then, considering the awful spring we've had. My rhubarb still looks a bit stunted.

I'd stick traditional and make a lovely rhubarb crumble

You can make a soup with it. Google rhubarb soup.

I didnt like it myself - too sharp

Don't stew down the rhubarb, roast it
Put rhubarb in a dish with a sprinkling of brown sugar
Put in oven at 180c for 15 mins covered with foil
Remove foil, shake the dish and cook for a further 5 mins.
You can also add some orange juice for a twist.
This recipe is loved by those who say its too tart to eat, especially when stewed.

I make my own yoghurt and stir in a small amount of cooked rhubarb.

Google delias rhubarb pie, I make small ones and keep in the freezer.

Going to pick a load from the garden this weekend, growing mad the last few weeks

Thanks for this, going to try this myself once my rhubarb is ready.

Nothing stopping you from freezing it cut up, then using it as you want. Mine seems to keep forever.
If your wife doesn't like it then surely it would be ok for you to take a little out of freezer and make a pudding for yourself now and again?
I wish I could grow rhubarb. Been here 18 years and tried growing it in 3 diff places in the garden (from sunny to dark and damp) and it just dies on me.

You could make a fruit terrine - http://www.simplyrecipes.com/recipes...ubarb_terrine/

Or maybe a rhubarb chutney - http://britishfood.about.com/od/eore...ney-Recipe.htm

And I've always fancied trying rhubarb ice-cream - http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/rh...ithrhuba_91430

I've gotta give that a go. I love rhubarb and that sounds lush.

I've been dreaming of putting a pistachio praline-y type mix through it - all I need is a good supply of rhubarb to try it out, where are you OP!

Seen it dirt vheap, reducd, in Tesco and almost got some but didn't know what we'd do with it. Can you just boil it and eat it mashed up with custard then? Would it need sugar? Think it's usually sour! We had rhubarb pie as a boy.

Thanks for the ideas going to try a few of those out.

It has been a bit late coming through this year, pretty much like everything else, my Victoria plum tree has only just made an attempt at blossoming.

The supermarket prices are ridiculous when you consider the quantities it grows in. I think it depends which variety you have as to when in the year it grows and it does go over in a few weeks.
